You are right. But to be fair he will be 35 at the time. I think the Caps will care more about term than salary. His current 9.5 is 16.82% of a 57 mil cap (when he signed back in '08). With a say, 83.5 cap he would make 14 million per at that same percentage. No way he gets that but probably somewhere in the middle? 4 years, 48 million?

I think Ovi will sign a very team friendly deal with some hefty performance bonuses.

He’s already made enough and he probably would like to be on a competitive team to chase some records.

I think the difference between Ovi and Backstrom is that Backstrom was criminally underpaid for a player of his caliber for a decade. Ovechkin was the highest paid player in the league for about half (more or less) of his contract. I think Ovi will probably get 10x4.
