Two waived players and UFA Tyson Barie for two years of Martinez. Woof.

That one is an overpay by the leafs in my opinion. Barrie will returns much more at TDL than Martinez.

It's more the question of what the hell are the Kings going to do with Barrie other than deal him as well, why wouldn't the Leafs want to control where he goes if that is the case and then trade a pick to the Kings?

I think you nailed it in the first part of the first sentence. Deal him for an astronomically higher return than a 31 year old defenceman who's best days are pretty far back in the rear view mirror.

We'll see if the Leafs even deal Barrie, but either way, we're just trying to maximize our return on Martinez and UFA we get. If the Leafs don't want him that's fine, but I don't see the logic or the value in this trade from either side.

That much I agree with. Seems like bad deal for the leafs and an awkward one for the kings.

100% percent agree, there is zero logic in the trade. However, for the Kings, if you were offered this, not taking it would be insane. You can deal Barrie for way more than Martinez will bring back. Unfortunately Dubas isn't really dumb so he wouldn't do anything like this.
