Wild Dumba Rumours - My Thoughts

Created by: Sufferingleafsfan
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 20, 2020
Published: Jan. 20, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
TOR
  1. Dumba, Matt
  2. Stalock, Alex
Additional Details:
Dumba and Stalock fill the needs the Leafs have right now and in the future. Dumba is under contract for 4 more years and can be that top 2 RHD the Leafs are searching for. Stalock provides a little more security and stability in net.
MIN
  1. Ceci, Cody
  2. Hutchinson, Michael
  3. Johnsson, Andreas
  4. Liljegren, Timothy
  5. 2020 3rd round pick (CBJ)
Additional Details:
The reporting I have seen has said Ceci, Johnsson + Liljegren for Dumba. Ceci is obviously a necessary departure to make cap space for Dumba (and space down the right side) Johnsson and Liljegren are the real pieces here. I think that that's a pretty fair trade. The Columbus 3rd is for Stalock along with Hutch. I think Hutch can be excluded and buried in the minors if the Wild don't want him he's only included in case the Wild don't feel that an internal goalie is ready to make the jump to the NHL right now.

This is the trade rumour I saw, I think it's relatively fair but let me know your thoughts. I also think Dumba + Stalock is as good a combo of defender+backup that's out there to go after for the Leafs.

Doubt Dumba gets moved. I know they said he could be made available. But so could everyone. They put it out there, someone blows them away...sure. This does not blow them away, it’s a gentle breeze.

For reference, Dumba is a top 20 d-man or near a top 20 d-man, and Stalock is an average/below-average backup. They downgrade with Hutchinson and massively downgrade with Ceci, getting a middle-six forward in Johnsson, a top-4 defenseman prospect in Liljegren and a third which is okay. You're gonna have to add Sandin instead of Liljegren, or Bracco and Liljegren for them to even consider this.

Wild have zero need for another left-handed left-winger. Kapanen makes it more appetizing but still a probably not. Kapanen and a higher pick is probably a yes.

I think they are on the right route here. Moving Lilly out is probably a must. They would want one of kerfoot or Kapanen and a first for sure. That is just for dumba alone. Keep the 3rd in there for stalock and add ceci to make the cap work, possibly retained.

Kapanen, Liljegren, Ceci, 2020 CBJ 3rd, 2021 TOR 1st for Dumba and Stalock and I immediately say yes. If Leafs don't wanna give up the 1st then a 2020 2nd and 2021 3rd substitute and I also say yes.

To be honest I wouldn’t want to give up that much but that is certainly what it would take.

If you take Stalock out of the equation, it would take Liljegren, Kapanen and a 1st for Dumba. The fact you need to send Ceci back would up the price a little bit because we don't need him.

Zero percent this is a rumor. If this is all it takes to acquire Dumba there would be a lineup to acquire him.
