Wild Dumba Rumours - Adjusted based on ACGM feedback

Created by: Sufferingleafsfan
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 20, 2020
Published: Jan. 20, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
TOR
  1. Dumba, Matt
  2. Stalock, Alex
Additional Details:
OLD TRADE:
The rumour I saw was Johnsson + Ceci + Liljegren for Dumba.
Previous ACGM I made was Johnsson + Ceci + Liljegren + Hutch _ CBJ 3rd for Dumba + Stalock.

I think this maybe rectifies the trade based on what people were saying on the last one.
MIN
  1. Bracco, Jeremy
  2. Ceci, Cody
  3. Johnsson, Andreas
  4. Kaskisuo, Kasimir
  5. Liljegren, Timothy
  6. 2020 3rd round pick (CBJ)
  7. 2021 2nd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
TOR 2021 2nd Condition: Becomes 2021 1st if Leafs make the East Conference Final in either 2020 OR 2021 playoffs.

Johnsson - I know a lot of people were saying Kapanen of the Kerfoot, Kap, Johnsson trio I'd personally like to move Johnsson the most. He doesn't have the versatility of Kerfoot to play centre or LW up and down the lineup. He doesn't have the PK ability of Kapanen and I think has less raw skill than Kapanen.
I upped it to be basically
Johnsson + Ceci + Bracco + Liljegren + 2nd (possible 1st) = Dumba
Kaskisuo + CBJ 3rd = Stalock/The fact they're taking Ceci's contract
For Dumba adding in a 2nd and Bracco which the Leafs can afford.
For Stalock/dumping Ceci Kaskisuo is a decent goalie prospect and the 3rd as before.

Wild still have no need for Johnsson...they need centres or right-handed shots.

So this was all based on the rumour I saw reported. And now I've made some edits to this based on the comments I was getting on the previous ACGM.

Lots of people were saying add a 1st or add a 2nd and another prospect so I added Bracco and a 2nd that could become a 1st.

Fair, I guess I'm protective of Kap and Kerfoot LOL, if that's the case I'd move Kap and the 2nd becomes just a 2nd no condition.

Honestly though...Kapanen, Liljegren, and a 1st gets Dumba. 3rd or Bracco gets Stalock. Wild don't need a goalie back, would take Ceci for the rest of this year I guess.

One major problem.

This was pointed out just today.

If Toronto fails to make the playoffs this year and is in the top ten of the draft, that pick is protected and Carolina will get the 2021 pick from Toronto, that you promised if you make the ECF in 2020 or 2021. That pick can not be in play until it is determined where Toronto finishes this year.

I've seen Canes fans try to trade that Leafs pick too. Is that even allowed? Would the condition just transfer over to the team that acquires that pick?

Yes, the condition would follow the pick. Carolina can keep or trade the pick as they are the reciever of the pick, it is Toronto that can not trade a conditional pick. If they made a deal with Carolina that they would receive 2020 no matter what and Carolina accepted, then they could trade pick. But with all the crazy things that could happen, Leafs miss playoffs and win draft lottery and Carolina get Alexis Lafriene

Of course their all saying add add add - value is based on the players performance nothing more. Dumba = a young roster player with upside a B to A- prospect and a late 1st. Anything more and you'll be pissed by the end of next season with the fact that Dumba didn't solve the Leafs defensive issues and every Homer on here will telling you you'll need to pay to move him.

It's not common to see conditions on picks with players for term is it? I've never noticed them before and thought the conditions were generally put on picks for rentals as way to protect an organization if the wheels fall off

Duchene was a rental+1 when OTT made that trade. Usually the conditions are for rentals, yes. Re-signing, games played, or team Playoffs performance are the main ones, sometimes there is a clause about not trading a player back to the same Conference/Division (early season/multi year trades).

That was my thought, couldn't figure out why there would be any condition on aquiring Dumba

There wouldn't be any condition to trading Dumba IRL.

Some of the trades here conditions are used as more of a value offset than anything else. People get worked up over a 3rd that should be a 2nd, or a 2nd that should be a 3rd way too often.

Minny would not have the problem but Toronto would. . The pick could be Carolinas due to the structure of the Marleau trade. Because the 1st round pick, in 2020 is top 10 protected, if Toronto somehow does not make the playoffs and they are in the top ten, the 2021 pick automatically becomes the pick of Carolina. Minny has no issues other than they would not get the pick and then there are issues. So Toronto can not trade their pick for 2021 until the end of the regular season and they get into the playoffs.
