Description
The Leafs put a trade package together to acquire Connor McDavid if he wants to come home and play in Toronto for his favourite team as a kid. Interested in your thoughts on whether this would be enough for the Leafs to give up to acquire him in this trade or alternatively what you think they would need to give up to acquire him.

Why stop the madness here? Get Arizona on the phone and make it a three team trade. Send Matthews to the Coyotes and send Clayton Keller + picks to the Oilers.

This makes sense and would be a better fit for Matthews and Arizona and allow Edmonton to really accelerate their proper rebuild instead of wasting McDavid's prime years.

Needs to be a gigantic trade that ends up with Matthews in Arizona, McDavid in Toronto, Eichel in Boston, Gaudreau in Philadelphia, and Marchand in prison.

I know it's fantasy booking at it's finest but Arizona has defensive prospects and picks to throw in the deal that would solve alot of Edmontons issues. It's fun to think about.

That’s not enough

It might take Mathews + Marner
And as crazy as it sounds, EDM still might say no

*and I’m not an Oilers fan for the record

Kudos for including matthews.

I honestly expected it to be kapanen, johansson, Barrie, ceci, bracco and some picks

You must be joking, no one is worth that much. Even this price is too much. Honestly its not possible to do a McDavid deal unless he demands it and lists 3 players total he'd play for, one being the Leafs. Then you could make a trade that wouldn't sap way too much assets from your organization.

And no one player is worth that much in today's NHL. The only way To could justify making a trade for McDavid is if it was Matthews and another asset, like a 1st, or a good prospect or a depth roster player like Johsson or Kapanen. Anything more than that and the trade isn't good anymore.

I get where you’re coming from,
but then why would EDM ever make that trade?

Matthews is very good, but he’s no McDavid
So to be convinced to take the step down,
the Oilers would have to be “blown away”
A 1st just doesn’t do it

It might even take MORE than Matthews & Marner

Edmonton will never chose to move McDavid by their own volition if they move him, it's because he wants out and that's why any McDavid trade would be unfair to the Oilers. Pray it never comes to that.

You might want to take a look at Edmonton's roster and farm system. They DEFINITELY don't need more defense prospects.

If he asked out because he's 'sick of losing', why would he want to go to Toronto? They aren't any better than Edmonton. In fact, their playoff record in the past 5 years is worse.

Honestly I completely forgot about Robertson in the trade but I would 100% trade rielly, marner and johnsson for McDavid. I believe that sandin and dermott are both capable of being 2nd pair defenseman and sandin will be a 1st pair defenseman very soon. With muzzin and holl on the 1st pair that means you have lily and someone else on the 3rd pair so your defense is fine. Being able to run McDavid, matthews and Tavares out there and have at least one of them on the ice at a time gives you an extremely high chance of winning.

I personally would rather have muzzin then rielly on the leafs. Rielly's next contact will be awful and I want no part of it. Getting the best player in the world will cost a lot and it it will pretty much always be worth it (unless it is totally unrealistic) but I dont mind giving up so much because of how insanely good he is. I dont like overpaying for guys just because you have the assets to but for McDavid it would be worth it

You have to be kidding. It is McDavid's dream to play in Toronto and win a Stanley Cup for the Leafs. Leafs would not be willing to give up Marner to get him and instead McDavid and Marner will be reunited after years of playing head to head against each other through a good part of their lives growing up in Ontario.
