Canucks can't afford to add any cap hits with Hughes and Pettersson needing new contracts soon. We're already too tight as it is.

Schaller, Motte, Baertschi will be off the books tho... and Markstrom will be gone by then... and Benning could still buy out either Beagle or Roussel...

We're looking to re-sign Markstrom (rightly or wrongly) and those 3 guys don't compare to the next contracts that Pettersson (10-11 million long term) and Hughes (~9 million long term) will get. That's almost all of our cap space for that summer without including replacements for players we will lose this summer and next summer. We're going to have to keep some space to fill in some holes as well unless we want to take a step back for 1-2 years, which is unlikely.

I’m not saying this isn’t a good looking trade but last year carter did say if he got traded he would just retire

They might, but there's no reason to limit our options to the point where we can ONLY give them bridges.

We should clarify that by "last year" we don't mean last season, but in September of 2019.
