Carolina doesn't really need defense.

I figured the only way we would get Necas in a Dumba trade is if another young player with potential is going to Carolina. Greenway helps bring some grit to their top 9 and he could potentially develop into a really scary 2nd line power forward someday.

Our beat writer has said the Canes are hard after Brodin so clearly they are looking for help on the blue line whether they need it or not. I figured with the Hamilton news they could use a RD more than a LD right now.

Can’t imagine minnesota would have a smidge of interest in this.

If they're supposedly going for brodin its because they don't want to give up a lot to get a defenseman. They're definitely not gonna give up one of their best young players

I’d hand him over in a heartbeat if they offered Necas, we have 4 other top 4 d-men...

The only way Carolina should be going after a prominent RHD is if they feel they won't be able to resign Hamilton or they plan on moving Pesce. Otherwise I don't see the point. Once everyone is healthy one of Hamilton, Dumba or Pesce is going to have to play under 20 mins a game and that really isn't ideal.

I think Brodin's name has only come up because of how poorly Gardiner has played on the left side this year that they feel they need someone better than Gardiner/Edmunston/Fleury to play top 4 minutes for them.

IMO get a rental RHD if necessary and get a Dumba-like LHD instead OR go with what you got and give Jake Bean the full role next year.

There is the expansion draft coming up. Spurgeon (NMC) was re-signed for 7 years. Suter has like 6 years left (NMC). Mennell and Belpedio have 2nd pair upside. Soucy has been a very pleasant surprise. Brodin is more important to the d-corps than Dumba.

The Wild need a high upside center. You have to give to get, and Dumba is expendable due to MNs depth at defense. It's not trade Dumba to get rid of him, it's Dumba is available to fill a team need.

With Canes already high-level RHDs such as having Hamilton and Pesce, I think adding Dumba is a bit pointless.

I agree but Hamilton could be out for a long time and likely won't be the same for at least most of this year if/when he returns. This would sort of be an "all-in" move this year but also sets up their defensive core for the future with Hamilton only having a year and a half left on his deal.

Well if they went for Dumba, they'd technically would be able to move Hamilton due to him being a pending UFA next year. Not to worry about whether he re-signs or not.

Well Hamilton does seem to have a 3 year shelf-life per team... sarcasm

I could see the Canes moving on from Hamilton next season and trading him as a rental. He's going to get paid stupid money on his next contract. So Dumba at $6m for a couple years years after that, then flip him would make some sense. It would give Bean a little more time to grow into the d-man he might become.

In this scenario I think Zucker would still be moved. We need room for Kaprizov next season and with Zucker's age it makes the most sense for him to be the odd man out. As for Donato or Greenway, maybe we'd offer both to Carolina in this scenario and if they choose Greenway have them add slightly or alter the condition on the pick.

I'd feel better about trading Geenway if Boldy was doing anything in college this year.

I'd just like to know what Greenway is as a player. Some games he looks like a young Simmonds and others he looks like a disinterested Coyle.

Unfortunately, I think he's alot more Coyle than Simmonds.

As usual, the official unofficial GM of the Wild (@TanSor) has hit on a trade that I agree with. This one looks good for both teams.

The Canes do not want to trade for Brodin and then try to play him on his offside. That would quickly be a disaster. Dumba would make more sense for them

Lmao! I've posted a lot of really bad trades in the past but this one makes so much sense to me. I completely agree about your Brodin comment, he has not looked good on his off side compared to his natural side and now that he's finally getting stable minutes on the left it has done wonders for him.

Brodin is fine on his offhand side. Having a quality/reliable partner is what he's lacked since he was separated from Suter. He can't play in the o-zone when he's having to babysit all the time. Brodin is on par with Muzzin as far as advanced stats go since BB has been coaching the Wild, he just doesn't get the PP time because of Suter to boost his points.

I like Necas a lot! However, I would need to know, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that he can stick at center for me to sign off on this trade. If he is like Kunin or Donato...players who are wings, but can fill in at center, I’d have to pass. But if he is a true center, I would reluctantly say yes.
