I'd also argue that since you have cap space and are stockpiling draft picks, the Sens should talk to the Bruins and see what they'd be willing to give up in draft pick capital for taking on Backes. If you could get another 2nd or maybe give them a 2nd and 5th? for a 1st and Backes and maybe something else.

Ironing out the top 6 for both VAN and COL. Ennis is quietly picking up points and is incredibly cheap for what he's put up (26pts in 45 games on a 800k contract). Namestnikov is fast and has top 6 skill. Consitency is key so maybe a 3rd is asking too much. As far as FLA is concerned, a legitimate backup goalie is much needed after Dreidger went down to injury and Bobrovsky is not living up to the contract. Ottawa would need to take Pysyk back in the deal though for cap reasons. WPG needs D so mind as well go for something cheap and temporary. As for VGK, Stone had mad chemistry with Pageau and would dominate/shutdown other teams.

We'll see come the draft what happens but the big asterisk on that is the pocket book of Mr. Melnyk, Ottawa's owner. If I had it my way, I'd much prefer going after bad contracts for future assets but Ottawa's money is the issue, unfortunately.
