Issue for the Caps is that the current third line of Hagelin - Eller - Panik has only generated 6 goals for and 7 goals against at even strength while on the ice together. The Caps need more offense from the bottom six, so adding Smith and moving Hagelin to the fourth line would keep the penalty kill strong, and add more depth.

Mostly adding Boyd to make sure the cap works out. The Caps would be under the cap if this trade was made 2 days prior to the deadline.
