Description

With rumors floating that Minnesota would listen to trade offers on Matt Dumba, and the fact that he was almost a Golden Knight during the expansion draft - I decided to see if Vegas could make it work
Vegas gives up their number one prospect and front-runner for the Hobey Baker award in the NCAA as a sophomore who will be NHL ready for next year. As well as high end picks in the upcoming stacked draft. Two serviceable defense minded players which fits Minnesota's mindset and could remain on roster for the right price, but mainly serves as cap dump to make Vegas compliant.

If dumba actually is available they will have 29 better offers

I just don't see Kelly going after Dumba. I wonder about a Bogosian or a Schultz or someone like that. Neither of those two guys will cost much and if it doesn't work out they are UFA's that we can walk away from. Low gamble but decent potential upside if Deboer can pair everyone correctly.

See I've heard Bogosian but he's not really the puck mover that Vegas needs, also based on last years addition in Stone I can't imagine they're looking to rent. So whether that be a defenseman with term, or a trade and sign idk. Vatanen or Severson from the Devils looks like really good options.

The cap will be a VERY significant factor though so renting might be the only option. But I agree, the track record shows that VGK prefers buying over renting. I just think the only real deal to be had is a straight across swap -- our UFA(s) for some other teams UFA(s). Or maybe other equivalents that aren't necessarily UFA's....like Stastny for Byfuglien. Dunno. But either way, it should be a fun month ahead.
