Exactly we're only going to give up a first

It's a pretty good trade ... a greatest hit! Right now, it tips slightly to the Rangers. If they'd change the 1st to a second, this would be a good deal for Colorado.

I think if CK goes to COL solo it would involve a conditional pick.

Something like Alex Beaucage & COL 2021 2nd ( CONDITIONAL)
CONDITIONS -Either of these two
- Turns into COL 2021 First if CK resigns as UFA summer 2020.
- COL makes it too WCF in 2020 playoffs, CK plays in 50% of those playoff games (COL can elect to give up the 2020 1st IF this condition is met & keep 2021 -1st)
- If either of the conditions are met, NYR send 2021 3rd to COL

NYR adds. There's some good examples of players in the same position than Kreider and the return they got as rental wingers near the deadline was smaller (for example Evander Kane or Gustav Nyquist).
Kreider isn't that much better than them, and also isn't getting that much bigger return in exchange...

it would. i didn't say it would be a good decision. gm's make a lot of bad decisions trying to win. i wouldn't want my team giving up a 1st for a rental. someone will still pay it, even though history proves it's always a bad decision lmao. the avs been making some really good decisions, so i honestly don't think they will be in on kreider. they didn't want to give up a first this past draft, i don't think they would give up the first at the dl. kreider would be a great fit with the avs though. only way i see the avs trading for kreider is if they know they can re-sign him.

i don't have any proven stats for this but my years of watching hockey, over 20 years, canadian teams always overpay trying to make playoff pushes. a lot of pressure to win in canada when their teams are playoff contenders.

Avs never make that trade. A 1st straight up is a fair price for a pending UFA. Taylor Hall didn't even return that much.
