Is this trade even possible? Montour and Johnsson have roughly the same cap hit, and Ceci is $4.5MM.

Not to Toronto. Montour cost Buffalo a first and Brendan Guhle, so a first and Bracco is comparable. Kapanen and Bracco is conceivable, depending upon Toronto's level of anxiety, but not Kapanen AND a first.

You might be right. Ceci is throw in to give Sabres a NHL defenceman to finish year and Buffalo only on hook for salary for rest of season.

Johnsson + 1st or Kapanen + 1st or they’ll keep Montour, you need to overpay ( same division + no reason to trade Montour before all the other RHD )

If Montour is NHL competent long term, he gets a lot more in return than Johnson. Fans of all teams shouldn't think a 3 year AHLer who hasn't a sniff at the NHL has much NHL trade value. Moral of the story, if "your" guy can't make your NHL club, no reason he is going to be a good NHLer on another team.

You might be right. However, Bracco was the second leading scorer in the entire AHL last year as a second year player who had limited ice time in his 1rst year with the Marlies. He is an elite playmaking right winger and is great at quarterbacking a power play from the right point. His problem is he is not a fit on Leafs because of Marner, Nylander and Kapanan are ahead of him and he is a smaller sized player with limited defensive skills. However, might be a fit on a team like Buffalo looking for just offense from him.

AHL leading scorers for the past few years:

2019-20: Reid Boucher
2018-19: Carter Verhaege
2017-18: Chris Terry
2016-17: Kenny Agostino
2015-16: Christopher Bourque
2014-15: Brian O’Neill

Offensive success in the AHL means very little.

If u payed attention to sabres hockey...the Sabres have no need for an NHL Dman, they are playing 7....7D in some games which also means that we can take away 1 and have no problem playing 6! We also have Borgen and Pilut in the AHL who we would rather play over Ceci??‍♂️

tears of joy

Searching for those stats led me down a horrible wormhole on hockeydb. I recognized most of those names, except O'Neill. Surprise! 5'9'', 22 total NHL games, and ripping it up to a certain extent in the KHL.

Markets are volatile. Would anybody like to pay an early first for mittelstadt? Because I'll pay for his plane ticket. Yeah, kapahen and a late first is probably too much, but prices do change.

Probably not an early first, but I’d love to have him in Duckville!

I certainly don't wish Bracco and any player bad fortune. But there seems to be a believe among Leafs fans that the Leafs "star power" at forwards are holding AHLers back. Nonsense. Just watch Bracco play, it sure looks like he isn't NHL material.
Thanks for your stats on AHLer. It's a theme that goes back for 70 years...among forwards and Dmen. You can also include junior and NCAA. Kovalchuk's last year in the KHL, he led the KHL in points but was second to Nigel Dawses in goals. I didn't see any 6m contract coming for Dawes.
