Trade idea with Habs - opinions needed

Created by: justaBoss
Team: 2019-20 Dallas Stars
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 21, 2020
Published: Jan. 21, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Does it fit to the needs of both teams? Granted Weber is superior of the two, but is his contract actually worth taking on? Would moving Lindell be actually detrimental to Stars' game?

And mostly, who needs to add?
Trades
DAL
  1. Weber, Shea ($1,857,143 retained)
Additional Details:
I feel like DAL needs a motivation boost and some leadership. Also I'd like to see how dangerous pair would Weber and Heiskanen make.
MTL
  1. Lindell, Esa
Additional Details:
If Habs is about to rebuild, getting rid of Weber's contract might be very suitable for them. If they get a younger great defensive D in the exchange, I think they'd be interested.

I most definitely would not if im Dallas. Lindell is homegrown, young, and imo sustainable long term.

If MTL falls out of the playoff race,
this makes a lot of sense for them

But that means they need to go “all in” on a rebuild
And start trading all their Vets that can get a return,
starting with Price (even if they need to hold salary)

Indeed. Just feel like Weber would help us now more. He brings defense, but also more offense. Obviously no one can take Weber's contract without shipping another big one to other way, and Lindell would be the only one expendable in this scenario. Considering the expansion draft, they still have only 3 d-men to protect.

Well moving Price is nigh impossible. That contract is severe to put it mildly.

If they hold half his salary,
someone will definitely trade for Price
Maybe not a great return,
but at least something decent

There is 0 chance Bergevin moves either Price or Weber . Said it again this week . Not even picking up the phone .

Holding $5,25M for the next, what, 7 years for a goalie that won't play for you...ouch. You'd really need to get a massive return for him to make it look even a half decent trade. Not to mention that Price's performance this season has been a bit sub-par, making getting even a decent return only that much harder...

Every GM says they aren’t gonna trade a player,
right up until they trade them

At some point,
MTL is gonna have to face that they need to tear it down

Yeah, it sucks
But if that’s what they’ve gotta do to move him...
and i doubt MTL is ready to burn it down now
They’re just delaying the inevitable though

why

Because DAL needs more offensive help and leadership. Weber brings that more than Lindell.

Hmm interesting.

IMO Any trade for Weber by any team will be for picks and/or prospects. Adding Weber while losing Lindell kind of defeats the purpose. Yeah you get probably a little better now on the right side but you get weaker on the left side.

Any team looking at Weber is in win now mode and win now means trading away picks/prospects. And its not even just looking at it from their perspective. Habs moving Weber fro Lindell means the are actively getting worse in the short term and adding to the opposite side. I imagine they want to rebuild if they are moving their cornerstone on defense.

He should be fired on the spot then.

While Subban rumours were out, he said he had to listen to every call/offer. If he didn't, he wouldn't be doing his job.

Trading Weber and/or Price could make his team better depending on the offers, he should do his job.

To be fair, either he has been his elite self, or complete garbage this year. He has shown both but nothing in the middle. But I agree, its far too risky for most teams to hope he can string together years of elite play for that contract.

No idea but that would be nice. Although any trade for Weber with picks and prospects going the other way is gonna have to include a major cap dump if not a couple of them. Dallas doesn't really have any currently unless Radulov falls completely off a cliff soon.

Even in a rebuild those are interesting piece .We've basically been on slow rebuild for last 20 years .
We have ticket to sell , tv shows , lots to chew from .. In two years Weber salary drop to 3m then 1m per . This contract is done basically , only 2 more years .Price makes any bunch of scrubish average .

I wouldn't call what they have done a rebuild. What pieces has he ever sold off? An aging Plekanec?

2016 Weise and Fleischmann for Danault and a 2nd. (turned out to be amazing, but even that trade didn't stand out as a major sell.

2012 Kostitsyn and Gill were sold off right before Bergevin took over. Also, Cammalleri was given away and hockey GMs around the league didn't even know he was available.

The last major sell was in 2007, when Rivet was flipped for Gorges and a 1st.

Montreal is mediocre because they have never really sold, they hold onto their players for too long and lose them for nothing. They draft mid to late most years and wonder why we don't have the same quality stars other teams get. Their drafted stars over the years consist of a lottery win (Price), a late 1st (Pacioretty), a 2nd (Subban), a lucky 5th (Gallagher), and a Russian kid drafted as a forward in the late rounds (Markov). Since Price 15 years ago, we have had 3 top ten draft picks. Montreal will never contend if they never rebuild.

Lindell is your most complete defensman. If they are moving anyone on that backend, it is Klingberg.

This is interesting honestly. Would also open up a top 4 spot for Harley next season. Considering how small their window is I think I might do it

Moving Klingberg wouldn't solve a thing, instead it leaves a big hole with no one to fill...
