Cheveldayoffs days are limited

Created by: bnormie46
Team: 2019-20 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 21, 2020
Published: Jan. 21, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I cant see the jets keeping him for the season. A lot of people like to blame Maurice but overall hes be a good coach for the jets and the reason why the jets are struggling is because half their team is made up of AHL players and healthy scratches. You cant win games with that kind of roster. Helle is being over played and that is because Brossoit is too inconstant. Cheveldayoff hasn't been good at trading players and signing UFA's and I can understand it be difficult to get UFA's to come to Winnipeg because its Winnipeg but its the responsibility of the GM to get better players when they are struggling. Especially when your goalie and top 6 are at the best of their game. With this current roster the Jets will not make the playoffs, no matter who the coach is.

Needs:
- 2 top 4 NHL caliber defenceman
- Enforcer (need more physical players who will fight)
- More consistent backup goal-tending
- Shut down bottom 6 winger (penalty kills)
- New Gm

The jets should also stay away from trading their first round pick at the moment because the new new forward prospects unless they can get something good. Also predicting Buff retires

I think it's fair to say that if STL lost Pietrangelo, Schenn, Bozak, Dunn, and all their depth D, they would suck as well. This is what the Jets have had happen to them....I doubt Armstrong would get fired

I respectfully disagree. Chevy has done pretty well all things considered in my opinion. The only thing that I didn’t like that he did is the Kevin Hayes trade a year ago. This offseason was not really his fault either:
Jacob Trouba : was as good as gone anyways
Tyler Myers: 6 years 6 million is way to much for him
Ben Chiarot: would have love to have signed him but got outbidded by an extra 500k per year
Buff: completely screwed us over and we can’t make any moves until he officially retires or comes back.
Tanev: way to long of a deal
Paul however should be moved on from in my opinion. We have had one maybe two good season with him as coach, simply not good enough. He can’t get the most out of his players, especially the bottom six, it’s been brutal. He constantly plays pylon scrubs who belong in the AHL other than young and promising players ( Bitetto instead of niku, Bourque instead of vesalainen most recently) are a few reasons why he should be gone in my opinion

Agree, there’s **** all Chevy could do with Buff’s situation, who IMO is the reason we’re in this position right now. If he had gotten surgery/started rehabbing right when the season ended, then we’d have a healthy Buff in October/November. If he didn’t want to play, he should’ve then retired immediately, and then Chevy could play around with an additional $7.6M. But now, we’ve got $7.6M in unusable cap with Buff giving no indication whether he is coming back or not. Chevy has had to dumpster dive to try to find any semblance of defensive depth.

No coach will improve an AHL caliber team. When we lost all those players or when Buff left, Cheveldayoff should have went out and got players but instead replaced the whole d core with AHL players. You don’t win games with a roster like that in the second half of the year no matter who the coach is.

The problem is that Buff isn’t fully gone, his $7.6M is still up in the air. If we had re-signed Chiarot and signed someone like Gardiner for example, we’d be absolutely screwed if he decided to come back. That’s why Chevy has had to look for 700k players, we can’t do anything else.

You move out a guy like Perrault or Kulikov and you have room. Or if he came back, you just trade him for a first round pick

both would have to have a sweetener added to move, then u have to give up more to fill that hole and buff isnt worth a 1st round pick.. not by a long shot (questionable shape to play, cap hit and age)

nah the jets should play the season out, get a decent 1st round pick and sign hanomic as well as hope players like vesalainen, heinola, samberg r ready to take the leap... their defense future is bright just too young

I think the Jets may treat this year similar to San Jose and Tampa whey they missed the playoffs in the last few years. The team will struggle this year, then do a slight reset this summer. If Buff gone? Replace him in the offseason. Rebuild the bottom 6 this summer with more cap clarity. You know Heinola/Niku will likely be on this team, how does that affect what else you do on the back line?

Yeah you can. The Jackets have been proving it practically all season. The problem is depth in the organization.

Yes, Byfuglien screwed Chevy on the cap but if you leave him on LTIR, with no other injuries, this team is actually ok.
The reason why I say this is that we would be in a playoff spot if we had Lowry, Little and Poolman all year. Come TDL, we would know if Buff was coming back and we could trade for a top 4 RD if he wasnt.
