Dobson

Created by: Isles777
Team: 2019-20 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 21, 2020
Published: Jan. 21, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This kid is a stud, Another great game from him tonight. Dobson has been solid in almost every game he’s appeared in; he’s already top 4 caliber right now, so I don’t understand why trotz won’t give him more minutes.

I agree Dobson has shown signs of improvement but Barry definitely doesn't trust younger players. Goes back to his time in Washington, at least. I don't know if I call him top-4 yet but definitely a guy you can play 15 min with on the third pair

His defensive impact has been pretty damn good (despite him being sheltered). They need to get rid of the learning curve , theres reason to believe he can be our 2nd best Dman by April

My biggest issue with him are the unforced turnovers or blind passes across zones. I don't know if nervous is the right word but I get the sense he doesn't like having the puck on his stick. Maybe it's just the pressure of not wanting to screw up. Minor things that can be corrected over time as he gets more comfortable.

I don't disagree with what you're saying but I don't totally agree either. Need to ramp up his minutes to save the other 5 defenseman and figure out exactly what Dobson is capable of this season.

That’s just part of the learning curve (and playing on his off side, unfortunately) . He’s going to make mistakes and every time he does it’s going to be magnified because he’s rookie - but the islanders have been a better team when he’s on the ice. Not sure if you follow Carey on twitter, but he uses that game score tool and Dobson is usually among the highest scores on the team each game.

Yes I follow him, good guy. Like I said I would increase Dobson's minutes but not throw him to the wolves so to speak. His numbers could very well look good because he's playing selected in the matchups that Barry wants

I’m not saying to play him 20+ min, but he deserves to play more than he is now. Dobson is still playing against NHL competition, so despite the matchups his numbers are still impressive for a 19/20 year old.

Leddy and mayfield have been pretty bad defensively over the last few weeks, so hopefully trotz gives Dobson more minutes. Pulock is the only D that has been playing great since pelechs injury

Given he continues at this rate he will be ready for solid top 4 mins next year.

Mete was playing top pairing at 19yo so Dobson can probably play top4 at 20 smile

Who’s Carey so I can follow him?

I think Dobson has been great for a 19-20 year-old defenseman, but I still want a veteran defenseman instead of Aho on the team. And when it's the playoffs, don't be surprised if Dobson doesn't play much.

LL hasn’t made a trade in over 600 days, but he’s going to trade for a defenseman when the prices are high for them?

If Dobson plays like he is now and improves his game, they are not going to limit him in the playoffs.

Have you seen how many times a young player gets scratched in the playoffs for a vet? Cizikas was scratched for Marty Reasoner in 2013. Anders Lee was scratched in 2015. Coaches operate differently in the playoffs than the regular season. If we get a Hainsey or Borowiecki or someone like that, I wouldn't be surprised if they play over Dobson in the playoffs.

That’s “if” they acquire a depth D. Borowiecki probably won’t be moved and I’m sure there will be a lot of teams interested in Hainsey. It’s not a guarantee we get a depth D, especially since the more important need is a 3C > middle 6 w > depth D

Well yeah, should have said "if". If we don't make a move for a defenseman, then Dobson will play and Aho will be the 7D. I just don't like prospects sitting in the press box.
