Question for the conditional 1st that we have:

If Toronto finishes lets say 13th last and is in the draft lottery. Would Carolina get the pick going into the lottery? Or if that pick ends up being top 10 from the lottery does it just stay with Toronto?

I know Toronto gets to keep the pick if its top 10, but im just not sure if the pick gets moved before of after the lottery??

Gotta think the decision on who gets pick is determined AFTER the lottery. After all the pick is top 10 protected, now where you finish in the standings.

Ottowa/Colorado just went through this with the Duchene trade. OTT elected to keep their pick and draft Brady with the #4 OA instead of attempting to go for Jack Hughes. The Aves drafted Bowen Byram this past year because the 2nd year is NOT conditional. SO...The protection is actually a choice. If for whatever reason TOR ends up at #10 and they don't like their options there...they could send it to CAR anyway and keep the 1st round pick the following year.

As Leaf fan, I think I'm going to interested in lottery in April. Believe the Leafs will have a seat in that event.

The pick is top 10 protected only, so saying it is lottery protected isn't exactly correct, since there are technically 15 teams that have a shot at the lottery.

Are you going to see a "line change" at the event? Canes sit in the Leafs chair when the drawing occur. Pick 15, 14, 13, 12, 11. Still no Leaf (really Canes) card drawn. Before 10 is drawn, the Canes represenative leaves his chair and replaced by the Leaf rep.
