Description
I still play NHL Legacy on PS3 and I had a little bit of free time, so I used updated edited rosters to start a Be a GM Mode and sim to 2021-2022 season. I did some trades only according to what I believed was realistic and what I wanted the team to be in 3 years. I didn't try to force sell Price or Weber because I know they are almost impossible to trade, but I put them on the Trading Block just to see... and Colorado proposed Samuel Girard, a 2nd and a 3rd for Price. What could I say? So I parted ways with him. Made some other trades to start a full rebuild. So I traded Petry to Vancouver and Tatar to Calgary for 1st rounders, Kovalchuk to Pittsburgh for a 2nd pick and some other guys for depth.

Finished 3rd last in 2019-2020 with 3 first rounders. We got the 3rd, 17th and 23rd pick in the draft. Lafreniere went first, Byfield second, and with the third pick I selected Tim Stutzle. Drafted Jeremie Poirier at 17 and Ryan O'Rourke at 23.

Finished 3 points short of making the playoffs in 2020-2021.

Here's what my team looks like going in 2021-2022 season.

I repeat, I know it's just a game, but it could be very close to reality.

Overpaid Domi

Maybe could've traded up for Lafreniere?

Yeah, moving up from 3 to 1st is more realistic than MTL picking 3 at this point. IMO. I don't think MB would pass on this occasion, even though I'd be extremely happy with Stutzle anyway

I'd do it for Byram (and Price would have to be retain a bit), but I'm not sure MB would do it

Montreal should do that without a doubt. Price is not playing good, he still has a lot of potential to bounce back he hasn´t done it the last 3 years so it is more and more unrealistic. If Price would be traded he won´t get you much with that contract

Yup, Domi is a little overpaid, but in Montreal, we don't have much of a choice if we want good players. It's been like this for the past 20 years.

Also, even with the 3rd pick, I don't think the team who got to draft a potential Franchise player would trade down. I don't think Edmonton would have traded their first pick (McDavid) for a lower 1st pick and somme other assets. Same goes for Lafreniere.

As for Byram, he must be in the Top 5 players who don't play in the NHL yet, so I would be very surprised if he was traded. Having Girard as a local guy + 2nd and 3rd picks is a really good return because you have to consider Price's contract length and cap hit. He will be 39 when his contract expires and Byram will be a Top 5 D in the league. If we'd acquire Byram, we would have to retain a big portion of Price's contract. That's why I'm happy with Girard and picks.
