lets talk about KOOKOO

Team: 2019-20 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 22, 2020
Published: Jan. 22, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Has Koekkoek played his way into a future for the blackhawks? Atleast the past 5 or so games since he got put back in for Gilbert, he has looked really solid on the bottom pair with Maatta, even putting up some points. Not saying hes a future first liner, but has he played his way into the future? Has he played his way into being the next Michal Kempny and we trade him at the deadline for a 3rd or something?

Either way I think he has emerged as someone with actual value

I think Galchenyuk has a bit more value than that, but I do think that Koekkoek has played well for us recently and could get something close to what Kempny got at the deadline. But, since we're down two defensemen for the year and our defensive depth behind him isn't great, I doubt he goes this deadline. Maybe as a package deal this summer?

I imagine he'll be Kempny 2.0. He has played really well and I hope we keep him and replace De Haan or Maatta with him. But he just doesn't strike me as a long term piece tbh

Yeah happy for him as a 6-7 D man. If the right offer comes at the end of the season we will likely take it.

He's playing the best hockey of his career. Without De Haan and seabrook, we should keep him. Very solid 3rd pairing guy at the moment and doing extremely well with Maatta.

Him doing well with Maatta is what intrigues me so much. Maybe them playing together gives bowman a reason not to buy Maatta out. So if Koekkoek stays into next year, with Mitchell in the fold it could get very crowded, assuming De Haan is out for a while, it probably looks like
2-27
5-Mitchell (I just feel like they would play well together as a pair and Murphy has played his off hand before)
68-6
atleast it could look like that for the moment, but Seabrook is coming back and beaudin will probably get a shot at some point and then theres Carlsson and Galvas who are both probably fringe guys at some point, idk, but it definitely makes a GOOD problem

Carlsson is too slow for the NHL so far, he just won't cut it. Beaudin will need another year but might see a handful of games next season. Regula is the one to keep an eye on.
