That oilers trade is interesting! They would like to go for a playoff push, and maybe the rental (Kovalchuk) might be a good target.

If that's the best offer for Tatar he won't be traded

Yeah I agree, DET got a 1st,2nd and 3rd round pick from Vegas 2 years ago and Tatar is currently playing the best hockey of his career, we definitely can get more than that.

He had 28 points in 62 games when Detroit traded him for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, right now he has 43 points in 50 games. Not sure why people think his value is lower now than it was before.

key phrase, 2 years ago. 3 years of term left vs 1 year is a steep drop off in price.

Ok but still. Tatar back then was a good but player but nothing exceptional and they got a great return, we could get as much and maybe even more.

Just bc Vegas made a bad trade for him a few years ago it doesn’t mean that is some sort of market value for him

It’s the hall Larsson deal in reverse. One bad trade doesn’t set the market

Tatar is having a nice season, but some realism has to set in, 1 year left on his current contract and if a team that trades for him extends him, I believe the 1 st year of his new deal, he’s already 30. There is a real stigma for 30 year olds in this league and Tatar won’t be an exception. Temper the your excavations if you think you can match or do better than what red wings got for him
