I hope so, but I made a "worst case scenario" price for him in case the Oilers have to outbid some teams. Trading Nurse (though I think is the right move) makes a hole on the left side of the top 4 and Edmundson is one of few available players that could fill it.

I agree I'd much rather have Nurse over Drouin. I saw it this weekend and I think Tatar would be a much better add than Drouin. Drouin has one 20g season and Tatar has only failed to reach 20g once. That was in his first full season and he had 19g.

I think I have to be the only Oiler fan that is completely out on Nurse, I think he's over rated and that his contract negotiation is going to be Similar to Trouba's where he will ask for the world and be sent elsewhere to get it.

I think Drouin fits in Edmonton and Montreal needs LHD badly, I'd love to try squeeze a little more out of them maybe a pick or something but overall I really think this trade works for both sides.

Trouba is a lot better than Nurse.

Drouin is just overrated for where he was drafted. He's never cracked 55 points. He's had 22 goals once.

I agree Trouba is better than nurse though I don’t know if the gap is “a lot” maybe Drouin didn’t live up to his draft spot but he’s still a skilled NHL top 6 player with speed, put him with Connor and he’ll succeed. I think the deal makes sense for both sides.

This is the hall for Larsson deal all over again. Just because the piece you are acquiring makes sense for you doesn't mean you ignore value.

If the hall for Larsson trade was hall for Larsson plus njd's first it would have made sense.

The value here is terrible

Care to explain how? You've said yourself that Drouin has never cracked 55pts. Nurse hit 40 last year as a defenseman on a bad team and is on pace to hit that mark again, and he has every physical tool you could ask a D-man to have in terms of size speed and physicality, he is a high end second pair/low(ish) end first pair D.

Drouin is a skilled guy but he isn't much more than a high end 2nd liner or low end first liner.

Not to mention the inclusion of Puljujarvi, who may not have lit up the NHL but he is lighting up the Finnish league and reminding everyone of the skill he had, I am not saying its going to happen but I don't think anyone can outright write off the possibility that Puljujarvi is scoring more than Drouin's career high 55pts one day.

Maybe the value isn't quite there from the MTL side but the fact that your saying "Its Larsson for Hall" and that the "value is terrible" tells me that youre not completely educated on what youre talking about.

You misunderstand me. Nurse alone is worth more than. Drouin. It should be Drouin and a first for nurse.

I do lol. Now I feel dumb.

I agree the Oilers are giving up a little more than theyre getting however despite what I just said about Nurse's upside I don't think he is going to be worth the contract its rumored he is demanding (7mil+).

I'd love Montreal to add something here that would make it even better, however I still feel there might be something here if Montreal is open to moving Drouin.

Unless MTL adds Suzuki or their 1st this year I think Holland is too smart to even consider this deal. Terrible move.

Russell will not cost a 3rd to trade, that's silly too. After July 1st his remaining salary is just $1.5M, there are lots of teams with an internal cap and/or that need veteran defenders that will be interested in his services at such a low cost. Trades like this should be reserved for players who can no longer play at the NHL level.

It all depends on the cap movement this summer.

Most years it would be easy. This summer when the cap suddenly was 1.5 mil less than the January prediction most teams were scrambling and it cost the Leafs a first to trade Marleau.

But yeah most years pretty easy

It shouldn't be an issue. Guys like Frolik, Gudbranson and Scandella were all traded for picks without much difficulty.

Also they were all traded midseason when there is more cap room. That would require you keeping him and being cap compliant to start the year

I wouldn't say so. They're all owed significantly more money, that's for sure.
