If Tony DeAngelo Gets Over 60 points What is He Worth

Created by: Vermathex
Team: 2019-20 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 22, 2020
Published: Jan. 22, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Assuming that tony d continues his point production he will end up with about 63 points. Could that get a top 10 pick at the draft? How often do young right handed defensemen that can produce come up for trade. Additionally, he is on a great contract and is an RFA which gives total team control.

You got a young dman on pace to crack 60 points. Why do you want to trade him?

With his production and puck moving ability overshadowing some of his d zone issues does that make Trouba a potential trade chip before his NMC kicks in this offseason? Lundkvist and Keane in the pipeline both having great seasons

personally I think his defensive zone play is trash. Granted he is playing with steal/hajek whom both are awful. Additionally, Nils is going to take his spot and fox is already our best defensemen. When he matures a little he's going to be one of the best d men in the league.

The argument would be that they have a surplus of offensive RHD (Fox and Lundkvist on the way). Not to mention they have Trouba long-term. The thought would be to trade Deangelo to address other needs. There is also the issue of cap situation. But there is also an idea that NYR trade Brady Sjkei, and move Deangelo to the left to pair with Trouba.

Funny you ask @Habs69, because MTL really needs a left handed shot defenseman. How much would you be willing to pay for Sjkei?

Rangers should trade trouba and sign dangelo. I don’t think trouba will get you much, but dangelo is a stud, I wouldn’t trade him.

Two teams that come to mind that need RD (who will get a top 10 pick) : Anaheim and Detroit, but I doubt they’d give up their 1st rd pick for dangelo.

Fair enough, I don't watch enough rangers to know about his all round game. I was just going off the fact of a young D putting up those numbers is someone you would want to keep. I guess we will see how he turns out.

He could be very much a long term contract trap, best thing is let him going to Arbitration. A 60 point out of the blue season in a contract year is just asking to be a headache

I am not too familiar with what kind of value Skjei would have and I don't think Montreal should be trading too many future assets with the state of the team right now, but we definitely do need help on the left side.

Sure, but you do have a bunch of picks you probably do not need, and a surplus of top 9 wingers. Trade surplus for needs. Same idea as @Vermathex's idea with Deangelo.

What young defenseman doesn't have some problems in their own end? Playing good defense in the NHL is the hardest part of the game to learn.
