Earth shattering Blockbuster only 25 percent serious

Description
I didn't like seeing Barzal benched for the entire 3rd period last night. (This is likely why: https://twitter.com/islesblog/status/1219821853864267781?s=21 ) Rather than get the puck deep with 30 seconds left in the 2nd Barzal made a bad pass that lead to a NYR odd man rush.

This is a major overreaction. I don't think anyone should take this trade THAT seriously. But what if Lou and Barry decide Barzy is the guy who doesn't buy all the way into the system? Defensive zone play is just as important, if not more important, than offense in Barry's scheme.

This trade gives Trotz an Ovechkin LIKE player with a cannon of a shot and helps out the PP. Barzal is a magician with the puck, but this team lacks a scoring threat. As long as Laine is a full 2 way player, maybe this works out for both sides.

I then expanded the trade as you'll see below. Isles take on Byfuglien (with an interesting contingency in case he decides to lace them up again next year - protects the Jets). WPG gets back a familiar face and a Defensive first top-4 D on the cheap.

How's the value? Fantasyland and overreaction to last night's benching aside. I actually think it makes sense for both sides.

Additional Details:
If Byfuglien plays 1+ game for NYI, WPG gets the 2nd. If he plays 50% of games and NYI makes the playoffs, pick becomes a 1st.

The second round pick reverts back to NYI if Byfuglien doesn't play in 2020-21. This pick is a hedge for Buf because of how unpredictable he is.

Barzal has been pretty bad defensively for the lsat month, but the first few months of the season he was solid. That being said, I feel like the owners would step in if Lou even attempted to make this happen. You need #1 C to win a cup - nelson + Danault are both 2C.

Also I'm pretty sure laine is worse than barzal defensively.

Danault will go nowhere.. especially for Leddy and Ho-Sang.. Danault is a Selke contender..

I'm not sure whether or not Laine is. But can't be much of a trade-off. It's basically sacrificing a guy down the middle for winger who can score. I think the other interesting thing is the cap space this creates. Byfuglien gone after the year. Saves Isles from having to dump picks to shed Ladd or try to make him disappear on LTIR

I get what you're saying, but it is so hard to find/develop top 6 centers - It's why you rarely see them get traded. The isles have 0 shot at being anything but a 1st rd exit team without a #1 C, even if we have laine and Connor on nelsons wing.

There was tension at times between ovi and trotz, but in the end ovi turned out to be a two way force. In a few years barzal will be a top 10 defensive center putting up 85-95 pts.
