Weber isn't getting traded and if ever he does, it won't be for much, his contract is garbage.

Weber is worth a touch above nothing. That's what happens when you have a good player on a **** contract

Leafs hang up the moment Weber is mentioned.

Weber's Contract = nothing, its terrible, no one should want anything to do with that. Keep your bad ideas to yourselves.

Good thing the leafs won't have to deal with being offered Weber because he's not going anywhere, especially not to the leafs. Especially with that cap hell Dubas has got you into

Ok. Quick question.

Because you traded your 2021 1st to Montreal and it was a conditional pickdue to Marleau trade. If Leafs find a way to miss playoffs this year, and that pick becomes Alexis Lafriene are you good with that? Because if you trade 2021 and do miss the playoffs you would have to give Carolina 2020 pick automatically due to conditions of the trade that sent Marleau to Carolina.

You are going to have 20 million in wasted cap space in the very near future when you have declining Weber and Price with many years of term left. I don't think Montreal has any room to talk about cap space. TO is up against the cap after paying star players star player money. That isn't a problem.

You don't see a problem with having that much money locked into three forwards. If you wanna see your problem look at your d-core and the fact that you are going to miss the playoff with Matthews, Marner and Tavares.

I’d be shocked and impressed if he rode out those final 3 years of his contract.

And that point Nashville will trade back for him before he retires, because if he retires with Montreal the cap penalty to Nashville would be absurd.

Going to miss the playoffs. Just a bitter Habs fan.

To isn't going to lose the rest of their games and Florida, Tampa, Columbus and Philly aren't going to win the rest of their games. Just hot takes, overreactions and fan angst. That is all this is, just nonsense. Enjoy watching the Habs be exactly what they are and have been for the past 3 seasons, ever year for the next decade. A mediocre team that on a good year may challenge for a playoff spot, and on the other years not be bad enough to get enough high end talent to be good enough.

Well according to every habs fan on here, he's the greatest man alive and do you think he's going to feel good about completely blowing up the Predators? Because that is what he will do by retiring. I bet he'll not retire and just ride the pine for his remaining years of his career. Or be a depth defender at 8 million. You won't be able to trade that contract so your only hope is he gets hurt and can go to LTIR. If not, you are running a huge risk.

I think his point is that “cap hell” isn’t necessarily a huge problem. They aren’t immovable assets.

Weber on the other hand has a less than ideal contract. You do get an amazing player but who wants to foot the recapture penalties when those final years approach? Not many.

The only team that has to worry about the recapture penalties is Nashville.

Nothing, if he retires before his contract is over with any team other than Nashville, Nashville would be hit with the recapture penalties. Just look at Roberto Luongo to a lesser extent, Vancouver is being punished cap wise right now

Honestly just sound like bias Leafs fans. Weber is in Norris conversations this year and is exactly the player Toronto needs, a player teams hate playing against.

His contract is an arguement that I have heard endlessly and honestly, its ridiculously over exaggerated.

He gets hurt, goes on LTIR and costs nothing

He wants to retire? Send him to Nashville for a kings ransome.

Declines in play? Trade him to the cheap owner wanting to reach the cap floor but only pay $1 million bucks.

Until any of those things happen though you get a stud top 4 dmen with 40+ points a year, one of the best leaders in the game and a dman who can teach your young score.

So ya, right now if Toronto wanted Weber it would be for a premium.

And it would be a move that would make Toronto cup favorites for the duration of Marners and Mathews tenure as Leafs until they leave in free agency at the end of thier current contracts.

Ah, that’s right! Forgot about that. No recap penalties then, just the cap hit? Or nah?

Completely agree, I don't understand why people seem to think if the only way MTL could trade Weber is for scraps. He still has lots of value

No just a forward thinking one. It doesn't matter how good of a November Weber had, his contract is garbage and will be a huge issue down the line, there is no way around that. And that makes him a non target for anyone. It just can't be handled. Getting Weber means, one of the big 4 up front would have to be traded as a cap dump, or Rielly couldn't be resigned, or Sandin in 3 years or Andersen next year. Its just an insurmountable cap issue.

There is nothing else to say about it. Weber's contract is terrible and there is no way to fit it. We know without a doubt its going to be a problem, end of the discussion.

Only if you look at him from a right now perspective. Will he be as good next year? Not likely, how about in 2 years? Or 3 years? He has 5 more years of term after this one and is already 34. He's going to decline, there is no way around it and he won't be worth his contract. That makes him untradeable. Price is in a similar boat, as is Bob in Florida. We all know players are going to decline in their 30's and when they have massive cap hits and massive term, it cuts their value to almost nothing. Weber for any success he is having this season, can't get traded to TO. They would have to move out a high price young player who provides extremely more value than Weber. End of discussion.

Good thing we don't want to trade him to TO, never said I did. Pretty sure this is a leafs thread suggesting trading for Weber, don't think you'll find a Habs fan that wants to trade him to the leafs.

If it is, the guy is an idiot. Weber isn't going to be traded and very soon, you guys that defend him all the time will be saying the same thing. He's playing great, (although he has had a big mid season swing every year you've had him and then he tails off), but it won't last.
