Not sure if you can even trade Byfuglien, but opens up cap space for Winnipeg to make a move. If Byfuglien, did come back, he would be a solid (albeit overpaid) addition to the 3rd pairing.

Why would WPG ever do this? His cap hit currently doesn't affect the cap at all. They have no reason to move him, if he does get moved, it's because he comes back near the TDL and wants to play somewhere he can win. In that case, the Jets would retain 50% and get pieces back, not give up pieces lol.

I dont know if he can be dealt, but if he could this would not be the trade IMO.
The jets are spiraling and trading their 1st would be a huge mistake.
Best case scenario for Buf is he is moved to the LTIR after the his grievance is taken care of and they move him in the offseason for value

I agree, best not to trade their 2020 1st.

I guess the big question here is this: What value does a then 35 year old, coming back after a full season off, with a $7.6 mil cap hit have? Back to back injury plagued seasons, followed by a full year off (If that's what happens) doesn't really make me want to throw value out to try and get him.

IMO, if the Jets can get him on the ice, they need to. If they want some return for him, without him being a cap dump, teams are going to need to see that he's a) Healthy, and b) Can still perform at a high level. Otherwise, he's just a thorn in the Jets cap issues.
