Gunnarsson is good but hurt a lot, so I wouldn't be overly reliant on him. But Mikkola or Perunovich could step up (if Perunovich signs). Bouwmeester isn't the player he was but he's still fine, decently cheap, and he plays great with Parayko so I would re-sign him on a year by year basis. Derrick Pouliot doesn't belong on an NHL roster. I would try to play Bortuzzo as little as possible as well but if Pietrangelo leaves we don't have much of a choice.
I don't mind Tyson Barrie but I'd rather go for another high impact LW I think. Our offense is always up and down and Sanford just can't cut it consistently enough. Maybe Kyrou or Blais can wrestle that job away, but Blais has been hurt and Kyrou needs a little more time to grow down the lineup. And honestly I think Pietrangelo stays.
Faulk's deal is the worst one Armstrong has ever signed. Part of that is while Armstrong has signed a few meh contracts he hasn't signed one stupidly awful. I don't think this contract is stupidly awful, but it's definitely not great. I think Faulk is generally fine as a player but on his best day at 27 he is worth 6.5million, and his best days have been scattered thus far. As he ages, they'll become more scattered. And it's for so freaking long. The nice thing about having Pietrangelo and Parayko is that one is elite offensively and average defensively, while the other was elite defensively and average offensively, so they are the perfect right side to have long-term. Faulk, while fine, does nothing at an elite level and is just not the kind of player you have long term for any reason. I'm still hoping Seattle will claim him (assuming Petro stays). Completely nonsensical move, especially when all those other forwards listed above should be retained except maybe Sanford.
