My feeling about that Minnesota trade is that three of those four elements gets him either player. What do you think?

P.S./edit: "him" meaning the team poster, not Guerin

Honestly I'm not sure if it would, or at least I hope it wouldn't. We need quality pieces like a 1st or a good prospect for either player if we move them. We don't need roster players so that would remove McCabe from the conversation

That 2020 second is almost certain to be 38th overall or better and Samuelsson was 32nd overall. If Brodin is the player Minnesota sends, McCabe is a replacement, at least on that side if not directly; if the Wild trade Zucker instead, acquiring McCabe allows them to send Brodin elsewhere for additional assets. Rodrigues is a developing right-handed forward. I thought putting together a package of any three of those elements would suffice for either player, but I know you'd prefer a first. The problem is, you won't get one from Buffalo. Pittsburgh is a possibility, and now that Pelech is out until September the Islanders may want Brodin both to fill in this year and to make Leddy expendable next year.

If the Sabres wanted Haula, they should have acquired him in the summer. I don’t think Carolina has any incentive to trade him right now with their record

The thing is we already have too many top 4 D, so there isn't a need for McCabe. Soucy has emerged as a really good 2nd pairing player this year, and we already have Suter, Spurgeon, and Dumba along with Brodin. That's the whole reason we would trade Brodin in the first place (IMO he's who I want to trade the least because he's been our best defenseman this year). If Buffalo isn't willing to give up their first then that is fine, I'd rather hang on to Zucker and Brodin until we find a suitor that is willing to give up their first or a good prospect. Guerin holds the cards here because if we want to stand pat then we absolutely can. There's no reason to force a trade

Agree with all of that. That's why my earlier comment suggested teams in the bottom half of the first round that WOULD be willing to give up a first. Add to them, of course, the two teams that have two firsts, although I don't think either one of them is in the market for Zucker or Brodin. I still like the Islanders for him, for reasons previously expressed.

The Vegas trade seems decent to me if they like Risto

But i don’t think that’s enough for both Brodin AND Zucker
E Rod has no trade value

And Nashville will get more for Granlund than a 3rd & 4th
If they’re trading him, it’s bc they’re out of the playoffs
So they’d rather just have picks or prospects than Bogo & Sheary
