Multiple moves to keep assets in place while landing some talent

Description
Losing POJ, Bjorkqvist, and this year's first is better than dealing Addison, Hallander, Poulin, or Legare.

Simon, Kahun, or Bjugstad can get bumped down if Jake ever returns.

These are all based off of similar deals I have seen from Minny, LA, Edmonton, and Canes fans.

Rumor is Billy G loved Bjorkqvist.

I would trade Poulin 1000000 times before I'd trade a 2020 first, and I'd 99% trade him before a 2020 second as well (which we obv don't have)

(Also MIN rejects)

Wild will be looking for another new GM this summer if he makes that Pit trade.

I haven't given up on him, he is still a young guy and he has shown he has hands. I'd like to continue his development for a couple more seasons. Look at Olofsson and Kubalik. They are much older than Poulin and hitting their stride.

Minny might reject that, but it might be tough. Especially when they see a potential top 15 pick coming back from Edmonton. I know they are competing right now, but it still feels like they can drop down to subaverage again. I hope not, I loved watching 97 in the playoffs a couple of seasons ago.

I have seen Edmonton fans giving up a second or third for Galchenyuk... So I added POJ to make it a first. I can see why they wouldn't, especially if they didn't think they had a chance to make the playoffs. But.. That is what I based it off of and why I picked them.

Minny isn't an easy no imo. Maybe add another piece. But that deal would get them close in my eyes.

I can rephrase my post, I would trade any late first from 2019 (other than McMichael or Heinola if you consider him a late first) for any 2020 first or probably second

Why does everyone keep trading for Brock Mcginn? What is so special about him?

Galchenyuk at BEST would get you a mid or late 3rd. POJ has been fine but nothing special in the AHL. Don't think they would equate to 1st. Maybe a late 2nd.

MIN is giving up a top pair defensemen, one of the most underrated in the league, and a very good top 6 winger for a bad defesemen on a terrible contract, a AHLs, a 3rd, and a late 1st. Doesn't add up at all. That package alone wouldn't get either of those players by themselves.

Mcginn is just a cap filler that I've been seeing Canes fans add in. I think they would like some cap help to get a guy like Schultz because they need to pay some more guys on D after the next couple of seasons. I haven't seen much of Mcginn this year but he was a very competent NHL player when I watched the Canes last year. He also seemed to irritate the Caps from time to time, which I would take if a guy like ZAR or Tanev get an injury.

Listen guys.. I was just trying to keep those four prospects while making several moves.

Notice how there is still a second from Carolina the Pens could play with. Notice how there is still Bjugstad in the lineup when Mcginn is scratched and they could bring Lafferty up. Maybe take the Martinez trade away and add that pick in the Minny deal if that is what it takes to get Zucker and Brodin. This was just the thought of keeping prospects, getting value from the expendable, and getting guys that might fit and take the team to another level.

The Minny trade could end up being
Zucker and Brodin
For
Johnson (not as bad as other teams make him out to be), Bjorkqvist, two firsts, and a third. That would certainly get a deal done I think.

If not, swing Bjugstad to a third party for whatever pick he could get and add it as well. I think that would be an overpay, as I don't think Zucker has the value some people do. I think a first and a second tier prospect would land him.

It doesn't matter if JJ can be a reasonable d-man for some teams, he doesn't upgrade any of the Wild's d-men in the lineup, and they have 2 more sitting in the pressbox that are about equal to him making less that $1m/year, and 2 in the AHL that are ready for their shot in the NHL (maybe they make is maybe they don't). He's too old with too long/expensive of a contract to make sense for a team that needs no d-men.

I don't disagree with that. But he is a competent NHL player. A bit overpriced, but the Pens are clearing nearly 10 mill for the Wild. They can take a third of that back. He can fill Brodin's cap hit and Minny still saves money. You would take someone with cap back. I think it would be Johnson or Bjugstad.

The Wild don't need to clear cap space. And the trade for both players is awful.

Björkqvist is interesting, but not a grade-1 prospect and a mid 1st is nice. That's Brodin's about value alone (Muzzin trade as a comparable).
It'll cost a 3rd or more just to get rid of JJ.
So Zucker is free in this deal.

The trying to sell JJ as a player with any value is like MN trying to sell Rask as a player with any value. NHL players, yes; worth their contracts, not at all.

I just don't see it that way. JJ has been an extremely solid NHL player this year. I just don't trust him with the speed of the east in the playoffs. I think he could fit better in the muck it up west, honestly. I always hated the idea of JJ for Rask. I think Rask turned into a borderline NHL player being paid like a 2nd or 3rd liner. I know Rask has missed some games, but he and Johnson have the same offensive numbers.. Not good. JJ is plus 7 this year but that might be a bit off because he is playing with Letang quite a bit. That pairing also shares a lot of time with the top lines. But he hasn't been a liability. He has value and I certainly don't think the Pens have to package a pick with him to get him out. I'd keep him as a 7th D before I'd ever attach a pick to trade him.

Like I said. Maybe you add a first round pick on or add Poulin, but I could see a deal that is very similar to the one above (at least as a starting point) get done if the Pens make a big splash.

There you go. How you see Rask is how other fanbases see JJ. Seriously Suter, Brodin, and Soucy are all better LD than JJ. Pateryn = JJ, JJ > Seeler, but the cap hits make it closer in value. Hunt is the opposite of JJ and fits better with Seeler or Pateryn on the 3rd pair. Menell and/or Belpedio are on their ELCs and can fill in the 3rd pair if needed.

In a cap world when Suter/Spurgeon will cost $15m combined for the next forever, and Dumba makes another $6m/yr, a $4m/yr bottom pair/7th d-man is awful use of the cap.

JJ at $2m a year would be okay and most teams could make that cap work, but the extra $2m with the term makes him a big cap dump, NHL player or not.

the penguins aren't going to trade their 1st for a 4 mil 3rd pairing guy.
