Description
I've seen a lot of people talking about Kyle Turris being a potential trade acquisition for the Islanders. While I don't mind Turris, I don't like his contract and he is really having a bad year for a guy who once consistently put up 50-55 points.

Instead, let's look at his teammate Nick Bonino. I've already suggested that the Islanders should trade for Bonino and his strong season this year has only reinforced my beliefs. Here's what he can bring to the Island (xG numbers courtesy of Charting Hockey, high danger numbers courtesy of Natural Stat Trick) :

47 games
14 goals
12 assists
xGD/60: 0.970
xGF/60: 2.990
xGA/60: 2.020
High Danger CF%: 54.77
High Danger GF%: 71.43
FO%: 53.8

This season, Bonino has has played exceptionally well on both sides of the puck and knows how to get it to the right parts of the ice. He's been able to generate limit the opposition's high danger scoring chances and can capitalize on his own and wins a high percentage of his faceoffs, despite taking the majority of his draws in the defensive zone (65.8%). If Nashville falls out of the playoff race, I think Bonino is a player the Islanders need to target. I think he fits the quality over quantity mentality the team has and can center a 3rd line, easily the team's most desperate need right now.

One of the drawbacks to Bonino, in my mind, is that he isn't the most physically, which may not fit perfectly with a physical team like the Islanders. It's also worth noting that Bonino is on pace for some of the best totals in his career and that his play from this season could drop next season as a result.

However, I think that he remains one of the best deadline targets for either the Islanders or any team looking for some center depth down the stretch. Hopefully the offer suggested here would make Nashville willing to give him up, on the condition they decide to retool.

Postscript: Much of the same could be said for teammate and linemate Craig Smith, but I chose to highlight Bonino for this thought exercise.

I like the trade. Not sure how much Bonino moves the needle on his own though. May need a second complementary move (rental) to go along with this

I want Bonino, but NSH would have to retain some salary.

Both of these statements are true. My other dream pickup would be Zucker, but I'd be happy with Toffoli or Pageau as rentals as well.

Bonino's contract is admittedly a bit of an impediment for next year. How much NSH would be willing to retain is another issue though

Not really sure. Bode Wilde is a guy I’d be willing to give up and that I think Minnesota would like. Probably need a pick or two in there too and if they could take Hickey’s contract too, that would be nice.

I think MIN would rather have Bellows, although I'd give them Bellows and Wilde if they took Hickey or Ladd's contract (obviously it depends on a pick we give them).

Works for me. Zucker obviously pushes Bellows out anyways and Wilde is the price of doing business imo. But yeah, they’d have to take some kind of money back for sure

If it's a 3rd then I can't imagine the Wild would take Ladd, but they should take Hickey. If it's a 1st then maybe they'd take Ladd, but doubtful.

Basically, these are what I'd offer:

Bellows, Wilde, Hickey, 3rd for Zucker
Bellows/Wilde, Hickey, 1st for Zucker
Bellows, Wilde, Ladd, 1st for Zucker
