Ehlers is good, but I feel like Buffalo is getting shafted here. Risto has had a much better year in the defensive zone, which I know isn't saying much, and Middlestadt still has some potential even if he's looking more like Sam Bennett at this point.

Risto and Thompson for Ehlers would be a better deal.

I mean, the other team has to want to do the deal. 60 point 24 year olds who are on good, longterm contracts arnt just given away

Dont disagree with that, but simultaneously 40 point physical big defensemen on decent contracts aren't given away either

Not saying Risto is a great defenseman by any stretch. However, 40 points each of his last 4 years, plays a heavy style has great hands and is still 25 so in terms of defense he hasn't even hit his prime yet (traditionally speaking). Yes the Jets have Pionk, but that's it. They could use a guy like Risto.

First, Morrissey is the jets best defenseman, outside of buff which who knows whats happening there. Second Risto gives next to nothing defensively. As talented as he is offensively he just isnt good at the whole defense thing.

I'm speaking in terms of true right side defensemen which is their biggest need. Niku is still not playing great but is playing okay. He's a lefty though.
While Risto again is not a solid defensive defenseman, he's improved in the last year. Still not great or very good, but showing improvement which is big.

When the trade is made Folingo will be 34... so you want our next captain for a 2021 2nd...

Let me put it this way. Columbus declines, but because of the value of the trade, but because of what Jenner means to the team and the locker room. As I’ve said, he’s believed to be the next team captain when Folingo is gone.

Crazy that he would be named captain over Jones, Werenski, Atkinson or Dubios.

I would also think you would want to move his salary as you have to pay people

Yes, the best player isn’t always the captain.

If we need to move salary there’s other players we’d move first... Murray, Wennberg, Harrington, Savard, and we can buyout Dubinsky if we are that desperate for cap room.

All the reasons your want Jenner is all the reason we don’t want to move him...
