Lots of moves

Created by: gregb569
Team: 2019-20 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 24, 2020
Published: Jan. 24, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Unrealistic moves but IMO not unrealistic values
Trades
1.
PIT
  1. Gagner, Sam
  2. Khaira, Jujhar
  3. 2020 3rd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Gagner - Balances cap, PIT flips him
Khaira - F depth signed through next year

Conditions on the 3rd - If EDM makes it to ECF pick upgrades to a 2nd
EDM
  1. Bjugstad, Nick
  2. Galchenyuk, Alex ($2,450,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Galchenyuk - Top 6 winger
Bjugstad - Top 6 winger/3rd line C
2.
PIT
  1. 2020 5th round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Any team that needs a cheap depth C for the playoffs, doesn't have to be Colorado.
COL
  1. Gagner, Sam ($1,575,000 retained)
3.
PIT
  1. Moore, Trevor
  2. 2020 2nd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Conditional 2nd - either 2020 or 2021
TOR

5.
DET

Isles pass rather quickly. If they move Mayfield it will be for a top-6F

Depends on the team in need. He's got 3 more very friendly years at under $1.5M cap hit. Mayfield doesn't bring a *ton* of offense but defensively he's exceptional. Eats up minutes and can play on the PK. I wouldn't trade Mayfield for anything less than a fringe top-6 player quite honestly. (Fringe meaning he might play on a top-6 for someone else but Trotz plays said player on the 3rd line to spread out skill)

Why would you want Khaira and Glendening?

Nick Bjugstad + Alex Galchenyuk are overpaid but they are better players. No reason to make trades that make the team worse.

And then Trevor Moore too? Why are you bringing in a bunch of 4th liners? Guys like Lafferty can do that.

Glendening is one of the best faceoff men in the NHL this year, that's massive considering we're not good in the dot.
Khaira is a big body and cheap.
Trevor Moore is relentless and could play in PIT, on any line.

Galchenyuk sucks for us, I'd rather a 4th liner who's going to forecheck/backcheck and hit over him, plus if we can get draft capital it's a no brainer.
Bjugstad I'm unsure of as he hasn't played much here, but I think we can spend his cap hit somewhere else more efficiently

If Wings would not trade Glendening last year for a 3rd why would they trade this year for a 5th. And calling Chucky ad Bjugstad top 6 wingers is not true, Chucky could barely play 4th line minutes in Pitt when they had a rash of injuries. Bjugstad is suited as a 3rd or 4th line center, not top 6.

You're telling me Bugstad and Galchenyuk couldn't play top 6 in edmonton? yikes

Idk what Glendening is worth as I don't follow the wings but a 4C is not going to fetch a 3rd

Edmonton's 2020 3rd is spoken for: they're going to have to send it CGY due to the conditions in the Real Deal James Neal Steal.

But otherwise, I think I'd do this deal.

Why would you expect Bjugstad to play in the top-6? You're aware that the Oilers 1C is the top scorer in the league, right? And their 2C is the second best scorer in the league? The only reason Edmonton would acquire Jug is to play 3C - hence not top-6.

I could see Galchenyuk getting a shot at playing 1LW with McDavid - not sure he'd stick there based on his play this year, but I think he'd be given the opportunity.

Being big and cheap isn't a good reason to bring someone in. He's not good.

Glendening being good at face-offs doesn't change the fact that he's a not-great fourth liner.

If you want "'a 4th liner who's going to forecheck/backcheck and hit over him," use Lafferty who has good defensive numbers and kill penalties. Bringing in more 4th line types makes no sense.

Moore is the best of the bunch but he doesn't help much either. That's not an area of need.

For what he brings to the table night in out, Luke Glendening is easily worth a 2020 3rd round pick. A 5th round pick is laugh
