Canes aren't going to use LTIR space unless they're completely desperate for the space, I'm going to guess. Hamilton may well be ready during the playoffs, if we make it out of our brutal division.

Take out the pick from Buffalo. Miller is signed beyond this year unlike Haula

What are the Sabres going to do with half a year of Haula? Flip him?

That’s not how the daily cap calculations work. The Canes actually have about $2M more cap dollars than what this ACGM shows...it only shows the cap as a static amount based on the beginning of the year.

I’m not going to comment on the rest of this, but I really don’t get why Miller’s name is even in consideration as a target for the Canes. He doesn’t fit what we need now...and then clogs up our defense and cap for two more years. It’s a hard pass for me.

I like Dillon as a target, or going hard after Brodin from the Wild. Both fit needs, Miller doesn’t. Frankly, I think Dillon and Brodin were targets before Hamilton got hurt.

Miller's value is conducive to the fact that he's been healthy-scratched numerous times. If he gets played in the lineup more in February, I'm willing to rescind the 5th rounder.

Because Colin Miller is a very good player who unfortunately isn't being used properly in Buffalo. In Vegas, he was one of the more analytically-positive defensemen outside of their top-pair. He would, in addition, provide extra insurance on the RH side in case Hamilton's contract asks are too high in the off-season. It's not called "clogging" the defense if you are actively planning for a future without Hamilton.

Agreed, that's a deal worth taking. TVR could also provide a 3rd D pair upgrade if he were to play well and get resigned.
