I'm going to modify some contracts:

Johnson: 4.5 mil
Stamkos: 8.425 mil
Kuch: 9 mil
Killorn: 4.4 mil
Point: 6.45 mil
Palat: 5 mil
Paquette: 1.25 mil
Gourde: 4.75 mil (with the hope that he will bounce back if not then 2.5 mil)
Hedman: 7.75 mil
McDonagh: 6.6 mil
Coburn: 1.45 mil
Vasilevskiy: 9 mil

This clears up an additional $4 235 000

Your point is a good one .. I like Cernek but trading him brings back real value.. or package him with deadweight Gourde

I would try this trade now .. to NJ for Palmieri and Ventanen .. makes sense for both sides .. Tampa improves for playoffs and NJ gets youth .. Tampa bay have to throw in Joseph. Emergence of Verhegee and Stephens makes Gourde even MORE disposeable than he is

How many years have we said Tampa is screwed and then someone gets a career-ending toenail fungus or something and they escape out the side door. It's bonkers. The next CBA should toughen the rules for all sorts of cap-evading stunts.

You're a garbage person for thinking that someone having a career ending injury is a "cap-evading stunt".

EDIT: Also your take in incorrect.

There are certainly players with real injuries, and there are many others of retirement age who were signed to stupidly long deals who were put on LTIR in order to avoid recapture penalties. I suspect you're about the only person in the world who thinks otherwise.

Sorry, didn't realize that having a degenerative disc in your spine was some made up thing.

Unfortunately I would put Killorn #3 on above list and take off Cirelli .. he untouchable .. I would absolutely put Gourde on waivers and give him away for free if he says no to a trade .. he HAS to go .. I could see Cernek be sacrificed/packaged with Gourde .. if we had JT Miller NOW .. and we signed Gourde to the 2 year 3M contract he deserves we would have BOTH right now .. JBB has screwed this team .. if they lose heads will roll

JBB hasn't screwed the team, nor will Serg or Cirelli likely be taking an OS(they are real common after all...). Gourde is the first player Tampa likely targets to try and waive the ntc, but straight up waiving him is a last resort and should only be done if there is no other way to keep the main 3 rfa's and if keeping Killorn is also considered a must. Based on the past 5 or so years of Lightning deals and negotiations, the much more likely scenario is that the 3 main rfa's sign for something around ~10 million total between them and Tampa makes it work by getting rid of one of Gourde or Killorn. On defense, Shattenkirk is definitely gone but that was expected from the start. If they can convince Rutta to stay for a low hit then I believe that's what JBB will try and do. This leaves the d corp with Hedman, McD, Serg, Cernak, Rutta, Foote and Coburn for next year at around 25 million towards the cap. The goaltenders take up 10.8 which leaves approx 48 million for the F group based on an 84 million cap. If Gourde does leave, you have Kuch, Stamkos, TJ, Palat, Killorn, Point and Paquette taking up 41.15, Cirelli comes in at 3.5 approximately, if Maroon takes another 950k 1 year deal then fine, if not then he likely goes. Verhaeghe and Stephens will each be in the 800-900k range, same with Volkov if he becomes a regular. This puts Tampa right up against the 84 million with 12 F, 7 D and 2 netminders. Obviously a 21 man roster isn't ideal, but the point is in this example/opinion they are close to having a 22 man roster without too much difficulty so I'm sure JBB and his staff have their plans in place to make a 22 man roster work.

Sure they will, just like Point was going to get 8 or 9 and take an OS. I guess ppl forget that players both have to want to leave Tampa and be willing to accept an offer sheet for it to matter. I'll stick with past precedent here in Tampa and the way players have bought in to the team's structure which fits in more with Serg at 4.5, Cirelli at 3.5-4 and Cernak at 2 tops. Tampa won't be overpaying nor losing either Cirelli or Serg as they know both are part of the long term plans for this team. If anything they would be willing to part with Cernak bc of Foote but even that I have my doubts about. Bottom line is we've been hearing how cap screwed Tampa will be for the past several years and yet the bolts never lose their big rfa's to OS and make it work. It's almost like Tampa's front office has a plan and makes it work, interesting.

I could see Tampa going as high as 4.5 to Serg and Cirelli, which means they'll need to find a little extra for Cernak or perhaps get solid value back for him in a trade. Tampa can save more room in multiple ways, they could shed 1.7 by getting Coburn to waive and then trading him, replacing him with a cheaper replacement saving 900k and using that towards Cernak. Alternatively they could move Paquette to free up 1.65 and use that towards Cernak and a cheaper elc replacing Paquette. There are other scenarios to free up cap as well, these are just a few examples. In any case, a 21 man roster is certainly workable. JBB and his team will then need to work a little to fit in the 22nd player, but they've made it work many times, no reason to doubt them now.
