Bean for Petry is like Romanov for Edmundson, would you like that?

I know Bean is more gifted offensively, but he's still unproven at the NHL level and with Hamilton out, maybe Carolina pulls the trigger, or as I said it could be Fleury and a 1st. Plus Petry is a RHD, 40 pts guy, top 4 defenseman. he's better and got more value than Edmundsson.

Nice returns for mtl ...they gotta retain if they want firsts or top prospects ... Can't see Colorado taking on two fwds and messing with chemistry but that Carolina trade is interesting ...not sure who wins that one ..nice

That's an absurd statement. Edmundson has never scored more than 17 points, whereas Petry has never scored under 17 since coming to the Habs (except for the year he was limited to 51 games, when he had 16). You might not agree with the trade (personally, I think Bean is topping out and, for what Montreal needs, Haydn Fleury might be a better option if it comes with a higher pick).

Colorado deal is a stretch, but not an insane one. The Avs have only 45 players under contract, so getting some depth and experience for the stretch run isn't a bad idea.

I think a much more accurate comparison would be Romanov for Gardiner. He's closer in age and offensive output.

But you also to account for age and that's an 11 year difference. So maybe Petry puts up 40pts for another year or two. Bean is still unproven but he is only 21 and Petry didn't make a pro roster until he was 24 or 25.

Bean is younger than Haydn, and has a MUCH higher upside. Also, using point production for D men? Really?

Edmundson is younger, and is closer contract wise, Gardiner has 4 years left, by the time Petry is of any true use to Carolina (which will be next year, because their issue right now is scoring) he'll be a pending UFA. I understand the Gardiner comparison though.

Points is a reasonable measure for how much a defenseman controls the puck and dominates play. I always prefer +/- but every advance-stat guru tells me that so 1990s.

Look, I'm not a bit Petry fan, but I do see the value in a guy who is solid enough to endure the rigours of the playoffs and can move the puck. Someone will trade for him and likely over pay.

Bean will probably be a fine player and it's nice to see that he is putting up points in the minors (like I said, it's an indicator of good things), but his development has been slow. Most of the 2016 draft class has arrived in the NHL by now and Bean hasn't even had a sniff this season. The good news is he's at least closer than Juolevi to getting off the buses.

Points is more reliable than +/- by literally a hair.Neither are good.

avs have no one to waive exempt out of their forward core. They cant just add 2 roster players without seriously overhauling their forward core.
Its a stretch and its a day dreaming one

Comparing Edmundson to Petry just shows how ignorant you are. Petry has been a 40pts producer for the last 2 years. Edmundson is mediocre.

Using points to measure a defensemans skill shows how ignorant you are.
