Pulock is a 25 year old top pairing Dman who puts up 40 pts in a defensive minded system (only 42% o zone starts). Pulock will become expendable when bode Wilde develops and they can have Noah Dobson and Wilde as the top 4 RHD. That won’t happen for another 2 years. It doesn’t make sense for the islanders to trade pulock right now unless it was a huge overpayment

drop dal colle (ik nearly valueless) and it is definitely an overpayment. maybe not huge, but the value is on your side (i am not a leafs fan)

It’s a lot easier to find scoring wingers than it is top pairing defenseman. This trade does not make the islanders better right now.

Really? What other scoring wingers of Nylander’s age, caliber, and years left on their contracts are so easily available? Gaudreau is the only one I can think of. The idea that young defensemen are intrinsically more valuable than similarly talented forwards just because of the position they play just isn’t true. That whole notion basically stems from Peter chiarelli being a terrible gm and trading hall for Larsson.

Part of why Pulock is doing so good is the coaching of Trotz. Yes, the islanders defensemen are underrated, but I struggle to believe that any of them would be even top 4 defensemen without the system they are under. Pulock also is not an elite top pair defenseman. He can play the role, sure - but you guys have six top 4 defensemen without a true #1 (though pulock is the best of those 6).

"Part of why pulock is doing so good is the coaching of trotz". Yes good coaching is usually crucial to a players success. Just look at barrie under Babcock and then with Keefe.

Pulock is a top pairing defenseman (with or without trotz) . His underlying metrics were strong before he became HC. Last season, pulocks numbers were that of an elite all around #1 defenseman. The Islanders had a 56% expected goal share with him on the ice and a 3.57 expected goals for per 60 rate. That is in a defensive minded system where trotz doesn't mind if opposing teams spend a lot of time in our end as long as the shots are kept to the outside.

Toews, pulock, and pelech would be top 4 dmen on a lot of teams. The notion that these players only produce because of trotz system is insane. Leddy and Boychuk's metrics are still bad. Leddy has gotten worse since trotz became head coach and nothing has changed with boychuk.

I said "scoring wingers", I did not say elite scoring wingers. The islanders can keep pulock and give a 1st rd pick + B level prospects for young wingers like kase, labanc, Anderson (yes I know he's had a sh*t year), Athanasiou, or even guys in their late 20's with some term like zucker, Tatar, palmieri.

don't count your chickens before they hatch. i think wilde is better suited in a package deal for a top 6 scorer with a pick right now. or you give him a year or 2 of development than move him out.
