Value is definitely reasonable and seems like a realistic offer. Although Minnesota needs more right handed shots up front so they might prefer someone like Kaut over Jost

If I'm Minnesota I counter with Zucker for Martin Kaut, Valeri Nichuskin, and a 2nd in 2020 (turns into a 1st if Colorado advances to the final 4)

Replace Burzan and the third with Alex Beaucage and Minnesota says yes.

The Avs are pretty much guaranteed to make the playoffs at this point, unless they start falling off a cliff, which I think is highly unlikely.

Dont think the avs would move nichushkin at this point he is a pleasant surprise and a hard worker. You could probably have jost and kaut and a 2nd

I doubt they move Jost and Kaut in the same package unless it's for a bigger name. Nichuskin is a third liner and can easily be replaced

What are Jost’s floor and ceiling?

Who is Burzan? I like Jost, but he's an odd fit for the Wild.

The value here looks fair (assuming Burzan is a boom or bust prospect to take a chance on). I don't think MN would make the deal though, just because Jost is hard to fit in the lineup this year and next.

The guy I really want from Col is Newhook. I just don't see a trade Zucker trade to get him.

Get rid of the condition on the pick. GMs of good teams that do that show how little confidence they have in the player they’re acquiring and I’d rather see the guy go to a team that wants him badly enough to not put an asterisk on it

How about swapping nichushkin for a prospect or pick (maybe 3rd round)? He's been good for the Avs this year and I think they'd want to keep him for a playoff run

Yeah it's unlikely but a few badly timed injuries to key players could do it. It's just a safety net in case they miss the playoffs and win the lottery or something

Floor is an possession driven 3C (basically what he is right now, but his ice time has gone down the last couple seasons as the Avs have gotten more depth forwards). He gets lots of defense zone starts but has good possession numbers. He gets more scoring chances than his stats reflect because of a low shooting% this year.

Ceiling is an offensive 2C who can play on the PP. Hes not good at faceoffs so he might have to be paired with a winger who can also take draws (like Landeskog does for Mackinnon)

Burzan was a lower round pick in the draft but is scoring over a point per game in the WHL. He's a lower tier prospect tbh but has a small chance of making it. He's more of a throw in than a prospect that has significant value.

I don't see COL trading Newhook tbh. Kaut is available though if you don't want Jost, I know MIN needs right shot forwards

It's just a safety net. Most teams put conditions on picks now because of the lottery, it would be stupid not to

I like Jost just fine, I just would ask for Newhook first. The answer is probably no, but have to at least ask.

Would Zucker and Pateryn (or Hunt) for Newhook be out of the question?

I don't think COL would trade Newhook tbh. I think it would probably be a combination of Jost, Kaut, and Picks making up most of the value in a trade like this (depending on the picks it could be only Jost, only Kaut, or both Jost and Kaut). Bowers is probably available too but I think COL would rather keep him

I can't see Sakic making another long term commitment to a F, with 7 existing F on multi-year deals. It might make sense to deal away Compher in that case. Zucker>>Compher

What's wrong with forwards with term? Having more forwards with term is a good thing, not a bad thing. Zucker and Compher can both fit in the Avs lineup it's not like we have to pick one or the other

Makar is gonna get more than Chabot. Avs also need a raise for their goalies. Last thing you wanna do is be forced to trade Zucker in a couple yrs

Zucker wouldnt be traded. If theres a cap crunch then trade players like Compher in a couple years. Why not get the best team you can right now while you have stars like Makar on his ELC? Adding a guy like Zucker with an AAV of 5.5 isnt going to stop the Avs from signing Makar

With this strategy you get: playoffs + 1yr of Zucker. Then you have to trade someone. Its a bad look for GM, especially a former player like Sakic. That's why I see the Avs looking strictly at rentals going forward; they've already identified their core players.

Cap wont be a big issue in the next 2 years unless we sign someone like Hall for 11M. Paying Zucker half of that isnt going to put them over the cap. I projected these teams for the next 2 years
