Nylander to NYR

Created by: Philu916
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 25, 2020
Published: Jan. 25, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I don’t know if this is fair at all TDA/ Nylander. Nylander has the ability to become an 80 pt player, but TDA playing 3rd pair for NYR who doesn’t have a very offensive team is on pace for 61 pts as a dman. He easily slots in to your top 4 for now and the future. Salary cap doesn’t matter after TDL, so you’ll have Muzzin, TDA, Reilly, Sandin, Barrie, Holl as the D.
Trades
NYR
  1. Bracco, Jeremy
  2. Ceci, Cody ($2,225,000 retained)
  3. Nylander, William
Additional Details:
Retain on Ceci just to help NYR with cap concerns.

Way too much to give up on NYR side.
Nylander and Bracco for DeAngelo, Buch and maybe something minor added should be equitable. Nylander and DeAngelo are on similar trends for their positions, but DeAngelo offers the luxury of negotiating a contract that is probably going to be about a million less per year than Nylander. Reporting has already established that NYR refused Georgie for Bracco, and the organization currently had no incentive to sell low on Andersson.
Personally I hope we unload Kreider and Strome and sign DeAngelo long term. We do have Trouba on a shiny new contract that he doesn’t appear to be worthy of, let’s make a deal!

I’m sure you’ve seen my posts, I am a Rangers fan. I’m just truly trying to figure out cap wise from Toronto perspective how we can get Nylander without them saying that I’m a crazy NYR fan who is trying to steal him. He can end up as an 80+ point C/W. Rangers need to get rid of Ruff and allow a different mind to coach the defense. Trouba at $8M as of now looks bad, but maybe it’s just bad coaching. Fox will need an extension in a few years so it’s not easy to pay so much $ on defense. Thankfully Staal and Skjei only have 1 more year.

You’ve broken the Leafs number one rule, the 4th best forward on the team is untouchable.

The Leafs are in a cap crunch and the Rangers are about to be, Georgiev + Deangelo + Strome are gonna eat up cap pretty quick. Talbot and Raanta both got deals of 4+ million and I don't think that's something the leafs can afford to spend on a back up with most of their Defence heading to free agency.

I would guess Georgiev goes to a team hoping he can be an immediate starter for a package of picks/prospects. I know most Rangers fans are hoping he's going for a younger NHL forward but there is a cap element to the trade. If the Rangers say they will just hold on to him once he signs a new deal it will be harder to trade him with how tight teams are and most trades having to be money in money out.

Skjei has 4 more years unless you are talking about when is modified NTC clause kicks in. I think Trouba is going to be just fine but the 8 million right now is certainly not looking pretty as you have stated above. I do not see the Maple leafs giving up nylander though. Like you said, hes going to be an 80 point player and i think with his manageable cap hit, it will be hard to get him away.

As for Georgiev and correct me if I am wrong leafs fans, I feel that Dubas's focus has shifted to fixing the defense over acquiring a goaltender. I think they will look to acquire someone like Dumba, leaving the rangers with one less trade partner. As we get closer to the deadline, it seems more likely that the rangers will be getting picks/prospects over NHL roster players.

Nylander is not for sale. Definitely not for that anyway. As for Georgiev, NYR fans are expecting too big of a return for him. He is just a backup right now. If he was more he would have been given the starting job...because what organization holds a player back like that?

Grubaur is the most recent example of what a backup goalies go for. The return on him wasn't even close to what NYR (fans) want and Grubaur had better numbers at same point in his career that Georgiev has right now.
Another recent although it's earlier than the Grubaur example is the Bishop trade. What did he go for?

Yeah sorry to bust everyone's bubble here...Georgiev is not worth what's being suggested on here at least.

It’s not the fans suggesting his value, per all reporting, the team has valued him as such. As a NYR fan, I would be fine with keeping him and Shesterkin going forward and letting Henrik decide if he wants 20 token starts next season or he can waive his NTC. If Kreider goes and Strome just gets 1 year in arbitration, there’s cap space (barely) enough to carry 3 goalies and slog through next season. A Smith or Staal buyout or Skjei trade (unlikely)makes it easier. After next season, there’s plenty of cap space as none of our other young players (sans Fox) have done much to justify anything but a small bridge contract in RFA.

IMO the Rangers aren't going to trade Georgiev till the summer if at all, till they figure out there three goalie situation.
Rangers have probably given up too much.
Don't know folks say Georgiev is a back up...he played 33 games last season and so far this season 23 games, so teams have a good body of work to analyze know his value.
IF. IF. IF he Leafs think he truly is # 1 goalie material...then a Nylander for DeAngleo and Georgiev, might be closer to a fair trade

This makes the Leafs worse. DeAngelo doesn't provide anything that they don't already have. And they don't have a replacement for a guy on pace for like 37 goals. Buchnevich is good but he's not Nylander.

Better trade for the Rangers, though I don't know why they would want to get rid of Buchnevich.
