Very interesting trades. The value for the CHI trade is there. (I did read the description). The hardest part about that trade from the CHI point of view is Nino's cap going forward. They're already kinda cap strapped. But I'd do it as a CHI fan and figure it all out later. Nino's an under-rated defensive forward IMO.

Any thoughts about a Lehner Gus combo? I 110% he's not as good as Brodin. Not trying to suggest he can replace Dougie either. Just might be a cheaper option both cap wise $1.2M and asset value wise. Just curious.

I think the Canes are looking for a more defensive guy along with a little more Grit...hence the Dillon trade. I like Gus, but I don’t think he’s on the Canes radar. The Brodin trade is specifically targeting a top 4 defensive stopper to add flexibility and stability this year and next.

This is not the right shot forward the Wild are looking for. And Haula is a rental they won’t trade for him unless there’s an extension involved

The Minnesota deal would need some tweaking. Admittedly I'm not overly familiar with Gauthier and what kind of prospect he projects to be, but Minnesota is essentially getting a prospect who might not be a legit NHLer, a late 1st, and 2 expiring contracts for 2 players on great deals Carolina can use for 2 playoff runs. I think the 1st shouldn't be conditional and the 2nd should have some conditions on what Minnesota does with the UFAs (extend or flip for picks).

If Minnesota moves Staal, that's their only point producing center and Guerin is going in a complete rebuild direction so they'd want more to help with that.

Wild shouldn't be trading for Haula. If we want him back, just sign him this offseason.

This trade is very heavily in favor of Carolina. Staal should be worth at least a late 1st in a trade, he is on pace for 28 goals and 62 points this season signed to a mere $3.25M cap hit... Yes, he is older, but he only has one year remaining after this season and he hasn't shown any signs of aging. So if you look at it that way, the conditional pick is what the Wild would be trading Staal for (which already is an underpayment) and the Wild are giving up their best defenseman this season for Haula (a rental), Gauthier (likely a career third liner), and a depth defenseman? This won't cut it IMO. If Waddell is as adamant as Canes fans on not giving up Necas, you're probably looking at both 1sts Carolina owns + a good prospect like Bokk + possibly a later conditional pick (such as a 4th) for Brodin and Staal. I don't think people here realize how good Brodin really is. The guy is playing some really phenomenal hockey.

Get familiar with Gauthier - he doesn’t have a top 6 spot with the Canes, but will be great if you give him one. Ripping up the AHL right now.

Also read the description...you don’t get both picks. Haula produces points, and is a Minnesota kid (kinda). You can extend him for probably less than Staal.

If Staal is the stumbling block in this trade, think you might need to evaluate the situation for the Wild. He’s not critical for the Canes so that could be worked around.

I’m sorry, it’s a hard no on the Chicago trade for me. If Anton F was not included it would be an interesting deal, but thinking about him returning to the organization makes me sick.

You’re not getting Necas. Don’t let that blind you and miss out on a top 6 right shot power forward who’s producing in the AHL right now and needs a shot at a roster spot.

Take him out - it’s immaterial to the Canes.

I’d want Bokk, I’d probably take Bokk and a 2nd tbh

Maybe, but Bokk is 2 years away from the AHL, Gauthier is Ready for a NHL spot. If you’re looking for a rebuild on the fly - Gauthier would fit.
