That’s a big over pay by the Avs, the Avs literally have zero use for Pateryn. Everybody seems to think Jost is a throw away, he is 21 (was way rushed into the NHL) but has gotten progressively better each year is an RFA for 4 more years and is on an ELC right now. This is better than what NJ got for Hall. All that being said drop Jost and Pateryn out of it and make the 3rd conditional on playoff performance and I think you have something.

D depth like Pateryn is never useless on a playoff team. Pateryn gives the Avs a 7th D man who can step right into the lineup and play a shutdown role when someone like EJ or Cole get injured. Zucker with an extension is worth more than Hall as a rental so imo this should be more than what NJD got. I added a bit more from the Avs since MIN is a division rival but I dont think its a big overpay by any means

Pateryn, the Avs have Barberio sitting in the press box, they buried Connauton in the AHL, and they have Lindholm and Rosen so they REALLY have no need for him. There is additional value in the term but not so much that you pay more for Zucker than you would for Hall. Zucker is a nice player but he isn’t the caliber or play driving player that Hall is.

Hall was a rental though, 3.5 years of Zucker > half a season of Hall

Yeah but it doesn’t change the fact Hall is a significantly better player and a much bigger weapon this year. In addition you have exclusive negotiating rights with him until July 1.
