Why don't the Hurricanes give him that deal & keep him then?

Apparently he and Roddy aren't seeing eye to eye

yeah I thought there was a rumour he asked for a trade. If true, he could be quite a nice haul(a) for the Canes

Personally I have been adamant Avs dont need a bottom 6 Deadline pick up, need a 2nd line winger....but if Haula is indeed on the outs and may have asked for a trade...his skill set is pretty tempting

The issue is Carolina need a 2C back, which I'm assuming is why Staal was acquired.

Either that, or another right shot RW and then move Wallmark to 3C. Compher would be a nice add if the deal becomes a sign-and-trade.

That still leaves Jordan at 2C, which still leaves an issue in the top 6.

Maybe. I don't think that it's necessarily a bad thing for your team to be built up on the wings, particularly with a defense as good at shot suppression as ours is.

I didnt realize he was playing C, assumed he was playing Wing more. Pageau would be a good target if you do trade Haula in a separate trade. Tough to get a 2c back from a team who would want Haula for a playoff push

Staal is a distinct possibility because of how the entirety of the prime of his career was spent here. I'm skeptical of any deal with Ottawa because of the heavy usage rate that their current players are getting relative to past seasons.

You need 2 VERY high calibre centers to win a cup. Malkin and Crosby. Schenn and ROR. Backstrom and Kuznetzov. Kopitar and Carter, Aho is a good start. Eric Staal is a passable 2C, Necas will be eventually, Suzuki will be.

Dzingel - Haula - Necas has been that line.

oh I know, I focus on usage rates a lot as well...thats why all the Kovalchuk crazy asks now after 8 games boggle my mind. Do you not understand what sort of ice time and opportunity he is getting in Montreal. He is not going to get near that on a contending team. Blake Coleman is the new flavour de jour. He is getting heavy minutes iwht the Devils, 2nd among forwards. 19 goals is impressive but cut that time in half with any other contending team, and hes not goign to be putting up nearly the production. Context is key, cant box score stat line scout by points

I'm of the belief that there will ultimately be a team one day that wins with elite wingers rather than elite centers. Having an elite defense is a really good start to make that happen.

I think Wild just keep Staal and Hunt for that offer.

Because a return to Minnesota could very well be an appealing situation for him vis-a-vis the rumored feud with Brind'Amour.

Then why would we trade for him and not just sign him this offseason?

Because this way you get him 100%, otherwise you risk him going to a team that isn't heading down the toilet

But we don't really need him... Would he be nice to have? Yes, but I'd rather take the chance in free agency than give up Staal for him. Also you kind of contradict yourself by saying we're headed down the toilet and that Haula would want to do a sign and trade to come here because "it could be an appealing situation"

I wasn't the one that said it's appealing. He just wants more ice time, and you have realistically 2-3 years left of Koivu and Staal, so a 4 year deal would get him at least 1 year of 1C ice time

But again if it's so appealing for him then why not throw that pitch to him in free agency rather than give up a good asset for him? If he says no, big whoop we probably aren't making the playoffs with or without him next year anyways. If he says yes, then great we have a good middle 6 center to build around for the future.

Being a UFA and getting paid by a team that wants/needs him to play in the situation/minutes he wants makes more sense. The Wild would probably just expose/trade him to Seattle in the expansion draft anyways.

His time in MN didn't end well. BB benched him at the end of the last season and Playoffs because he got pouty about play time.
