Description

Prefer DeSmith over Georgiev for a number of reasons. His numbers over the last 3 years are slightly better, he is signed to a reasonable contract with term (3yr), the cost to obtain him is more in line with a back up goalie and there is less chance of losing him in the expansion draft. Rangers ask of a top 6 forward and a 1st will seem pretty silly when Georgiev is playing in Seattle for free.

the penguins have a plethora of guys who can play bottom 6 minutes. I don't see why they would do this.
They hold onto him. They will deal with it in the off season or pass him through waivers again knowing they will have a spot for him after the expansion draft.
He gives them a lot of flexibility to trade him for no real return to the team.
