additions for playoff run

Created by: KingsLover
Team: 2019-20 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 26, 2020
Published: Jan. 26, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
CGY
  1. Toffoli, Tyler ($1,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
The Flames get a 2nd line winger in Toffoli who has the ability's to get hot and put up bunches of points, also has a tendency to be streaky though. Could fit in well with a great playmaker like Gaudreau.
LAK
  1. Bennett, Sam
  2. Mangiapane, Andrew
  3. 2020 2nd round pick (CGY)
  4. 2021 5th round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Bennett has not panned out the way the Flames have wanted, but he is a physical force for the bottom 6 and maybe he can play better in a new environment.
Mangiapane is a solid young player capable of being a 30 point wing in my opinion
2.
CGY
  1. Sheary, Conor
  2. 2021 4th round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
Sheary can be inconsistent but he has been a winner in the past for the Pens and has good speed and an above average shot.
BUF
  1. 2021 3rd round pick (CGY)
3.
CGY
  1. Cousins, Nick
  2. 2020 5th round pick (MTL)
  3. 2021 5th round pick (OTT)
Additional Details:
The Flames get a better option for the 4th line in Cousins as he is better offensively the Jankowski and is able to be placed at any forward position.
MTL
  1. Jankowski, Mark
  2. 2020 4th round pick (SJS)
  3. 2021 4th round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
The Habs get a younger centre in Jankowski who has shown potential as a good bottom 6 centre in the past, but has had a truly awful season, and maybe a change of scenery in Montreal with the young team they have there can benefit him.
4.
CGY
  1. Irwin, Matt
Additional Details:
solid depth defensemen capable of playing 3rd pair minutes if an injury occurs, a better d-man than Michael Stone and a solid puck mover
NSH
  1. 2020 6th round pick (CGY)

I admit this doesn't have much to do with your post, but since you brought up Bennett, as a Blues fan, I've always wanted to see a B. Jenner-B. Schenn-S. Bennett line in STL. I think that would be an ideal third line with skill and plenty of thump.

Buffalo hangs up and blocks your number . Third round pick straight up . Moving a half a round is supposed to entice them to move a player. LOL

Why though? The Sabres are currently 10 points out of the playoff picture atm, and currently Tampa, Florida, Carolina and Columbus the teams this club is trying to catch for playoff spots are all on pace for 100 or more points, while Buffalo is on pace for just 85. If the final wild card or 3rd in the division comes down to lets say 95-100 points that means Buffalo (51 pts in 49 games) needs to get 45-49 pts in 33 games which realistically means they need to win 20-23 games. From what they have shown this year and the amount of players requesting trades out of Buffalo, I believe they need to be sellers at the deadline, and one player who brings back value is Sheary. BUT that value is not much more than a 3rd round pick. Maybe a C prospect like Eetu Tuulola, or Martin Pospisil. But nothing more.

What do you mean? You are asking for 2 NHL regulars (1 playing on the 1st line) and a 2nd for a decent UFA

Just because Magiapane is playing on the 1st line doesn't mean he's a 1st liner or anything. He's a decent scorer (bout a 35 point guy Imo) and probably belongs on the 3rd line. Bennett is a bust, although he is a physical presence and a pest and while here and there he'll show flashes of his potential he never can put it together fully. So really it's a decent 3rd line scorer, 4th line grinder/power forward, and a 2nd for a guy who is a) A fantastic puck mover who consistently has a great crosi. B) Has Championship pedigree. And C) Is scoring at about a 45 point clip on one of the least skilled teams in the league, and has only recently started getting paired with Kopitar (who he's played great with showing with skilled line mates he can score well), before he had 21 points in 40 games primarily playing with a washed up Jeff Carter and rookie Blake Lizotte. So with Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan for about a 25 game stretch you could probably expect around 15-18 points and an asset in helping this team to get past the 1st round for once, as they desperately need to go on a playoff run if Treliving wants to keep his job, which will probably be on the line if they don't make the playoffs and win at least a round.

That is a crap return that is why. Think e Sabres should make a trade below value to Calgary? You a making Buffalo include a 4th to get a third and the player . LOL

Sheary is a good enough player to get the 3rd rounder by himself. He's a pending UFA so the contract is one a done at the end of the year. Not that there is a ton of interest in him but if the cost was only a 3rd rounder, I got to think teams would be willing to take a flyer on him.

So what should the Flames give up for Sheary? How about 1st round picks from 2020-2022? Is that enough for the almighty Sheary?

He is worth a third realistically without the Sabres having to give up a fourth.

Ouch. If you're going to the Preds for bottom pairing depth, you've already lost. We need that shored up, not taken away from.
