Nylander for Ellis would be a good trade for both teams.

Not sure Nashville wants a 1st 3 years from now, a UFA defensemen and a middle 6 winger for a core guy they gave 8 years to

Not sure if this makes the Leafs better this year. Trading two RHD and obtaining one. Trading two forwards and get one in return. Then next year cap issues with six RFAs to sign. Plus trading away about years worth of draft picks.

Leafs aren’t moving nylander, Ellis I’m not sure about but I would assume they signed him to a long term deal for a reason. Leafs would not be better off trading key pieces. Futures yes. But maybe not this year with the way things have gone.

Pretty sure the plan is to keep Ellis, not downgrade him for scoring depth and distant futures.
