Rielly won't be back until likely playoff time. If he sits out the rest of the regular season his cap hit doesn't count against the team and there is no cap in playoffs. So they'd be cap compliant

I don’t get why people say 50% retained when you can just use the retain tool.

Anyhow, I think the leafs get robbed here.

Re-evaluated in 6 weeks isnt playoff time and when were going to be fighting a lot of teams for a spot we wont have the luxury of keeping him out for cap reasons. To say that is somehow the 'likely' outcome is nonsense.

I dont' get why people criticize people for being new, instead of just explaining how to click, "retain salary" while you're making the trade, and then type in the amount?

"Re-evaluated" doesn't mean ready to go. I'm sure if there's any concerns on it they'll keep him out and watch the cap. They're not stupid

Some people, specifically the guy who you quoted, come on here to tell others how much smarter they are then everyone else. It makes them feel big and powerful. That is why they insult instead of just telling people how to do stuff. It's sad

Keeping a guy out just to save a bit of cap is risky. The game action is way faster than practice. Getting games in is key.

They're depth on the left side is good enough to do it. Wouldn't be the least bit shocked to see him come back for game 1 of the playoffs

And struggle because he isn't in game shape. No thanks, as soon as he's healthy I would get him playing. Why have him rusty in the playoffs?

He wouldn't be doing nothing while recovering. He'd be training still. Chicago did it with Kane and won the cup. Plus Reilly's been playing injured all season, the extra rest could be good for him

I hear what you are saying, I just know for myself as a hockey player (not at all a good one) I want to ease into playing, it take a long time to get the timing back and I'd rather do that in the regular season than the playoffs. A wingers job is a lot easier than a defenceman as well.

If Rielly doesn’t come back til the playoffs he won’t play another game this season. Adding 2 guys under .900 save % to a team that has its struggle defensively is a recipe for disaster.

Because this is all for fun and not real life... I really like this deal. I love Freddie... but I think Quick is a gamer and would play great behind the leafs... and secure the position for the next 4 years. So Kapanen and Johnsson for playoff grit and experience? They become a heavier team overnight... I hate to lose those guys but this would make things interesting...

Quick is a gamer with an .896 save %. Freddie is a better goalie. Quick is in the bottom half of goalies in the league and Freddie is in the top 3rd.

Well that's one way to ensure the leafs don't make the playoffs

It would be blockbuster. But certainly doesn't help the Leafs at all. Think it adds playoff experience? Kings have missed the playoffs for years for a reason.
