The Toffoli trade is one LA would do.

NYR will be looking for a 1st for Kreider, since they got one for Hayes last year and I think many would argue that more teams will want Kreider, than wanted Hayes last year

Teams want the center. Heinen’s pretty darn good, has another year left, and then still RFA status. It’s a good package.

I don't agree with @Bcarlo25 a lot, but I agree with him here. Rangers getting Heinen is a pretty good get one trade for Kreider. He's young, experienced, can play multiple positions and is cost controlled. Hard to get someone like that at the deadline.

if this was a summer deal you woulda nailed it
but TDL is the pinnacle of Capitalism in the NHL
Its where Supply vs Demand matters more then anything else.

The fact is when there is next to no top 6 wingers of note available then you will be overpaying .
Example :

Plekanec trade a few years back say Plekky as 1/4 Centers with previous top 6 Center capability and 1/2 with over 55% win rate .
Normally suggesting a package with a 2nd for a Center that's struggled for 2+ seasons to find consistency offensively would get you laughed at .
The reality is we got 2 prospects and a Pick we used to draft a Swedish Checking Center compared to Colton Scissons for Plekky .

The reality is that after Hall landed the haul he did i think Kreiders looking at a 1st with Ho-sang getting dealt to NYI who will offer the most IMO and he fits their systems grit edge style.

Personally i would rather acquire heinen, a prospect, and a conditional 2nd, than a pick between 25-31 and a B prospect. You’re getting a young cost control nhl player. That’s something tangible. They just signed panarin and trouba, they shouldn’t be looking for parts that might chip in in 5 years.

LA works for both.

Fair value to NYR, but they are not interested in it.

As Billy said above. Supply and demand. This is a sellers year, pickings are slim and Kreider may be the best piece on the market. A regressing Heinen is of little interest to them when they can get a 1st plus.
