Trading Engvall is a non-starter. Interesting interview I listened to on a local radio station in which they discussed the Kadri trade he nixed that would have sent Brodie to Toronto. Apparently Brodie did not want to leave Calgary and would have used his modified NTC to block the trade to the Leafs.

So even if Kadri had been okay going to Calgary, Brodie was not okay leaving even though he's from Chatham, Ontario.

I am a leafs fan and a Flames fan. The last great thing Kadri did for this team was to kibosh a trade that would send us brodie. We are certainly not sending engvall and kapanen out for Brodie. The fact that we are on his very short ntc list really puts a nail in this coffin.

Actually leafs were added to that list later. Kadri saved dubas’ ass. Jankowski and Brodie would have been a disaster.

good to know on both accounts, If not Engvall i was going to put Moore or Timashov, Engvall just had the bigger cap hit. Weird Brodie would nix rthat but maybe its different with Calgary in a completely different spot this year and with only a few months left on his contract

So in terms of value per player:
- Brodie (retained and extended)
- Montour
- Kapanen
- Bennett
- Engvall

Value overall is decent (best for Buffalo IMO) but both Flames and Leafs decline. Leafs dont need a Brodie type player the need more of a Hamonic (stay at home defense). Flames arent going to trade out Brodie without getting a top 6 RHW in return also Flames management will never retain on a contract.

Look through Flames trade history regardless of UFA or multiple years they never retain on contracts. It's like an unspoken law of the owners not to pay for anyone that isn't going to play for them. It was a miracle that they were willing to even buy out Stone this summer but then they went and signed him again so it didnt matter anyways

What a terrible trade for the Leafs. Two young NHL regulars for a OK Dman on an expiring contract. The difference Brodie and any Leaf Dman isn't worth even one of Engvall or Kapanen. And more crazy talk about extensions. If necessary the Leafs will. wait till the summer.

I can see the Leafs entertaining a Kap and Engvall for Montour, I really don't see both the Leafs and flames getting involved to give Buffalo the best value in the trade

It's the phoney extension clause that kills any deal. Calgary in a playoff race doesn't ask a player to extend. Who does Brodie replace on the Leafs that make the Leafs THATY much better on defence, when two NHL regulars are traded?
Now you're making stuff up. "Toronto has stated Kapanen is available for a RHD." Certainly Leaf management doesn't release that information....although it might be true.

Player A is not worth very much, so I will offer a underwhelming return because he isn't very good and I don't think highly of him. Proceeds to put him on the top line because of course you would.

You clearly see Kapanen as a potential terrific linemate for Eichel but want to pay pennies on the dollar to get him because that is a clear cut win for you. You post a trade that isn't at all good for TO, but gives you what you clearly hope is a #1 RW that can score a tonne of goals thanks to Eichel's playmaking ability (which is tremendous I'd like to add). Makes sense, its a good plan. You do so in a way that doesn't benefit the Leafs at all since all they get is a pending UFA who isn't at all what they need right now. It also costs them Engval.

When presented with an argument that the trade is bad for the team in question, you say, I don't value these players that I traded for, despite putting Kap right on the top line. All of that is obviously suspect and misleading. When presented with that, you start calling names.

So to translate all of this, you are annoyed because people didn't agree with your BS trade and defense of said trade so you call them childish. When you parents take away your Xbox time, do you call them childish as well?
