If all Montreal is offered for Kovalchuk is a 4th, I would sooner just give him away to a Contender of his choice to make him happy so Montreal has a better chance at signing him July 1st.

I certainly think its a fair offer, and they did trade with New Jersey a few seasons ago

Makes no sense to give up significant assets for a defenseman when we have Noah Dobson

Rangers accept. But I think the idea here is that Lou won't trade with Rangers...

noah Dobson isnt good. Make no mistake, hes going to be awesome and a potential future all star, but he has looked extremely out of place when in. Just way too young

would be foolish. Kreider and Barzal were designed for one another

They would, and as a Ranger fan I really wouldn't want to see them together for another 6 to 8 years. The trade value is very fair, maybe a slight overpay.

That is not true. he’s looked a lot better than toews and boychuk - and the numbers back it up. Dobson makes one mistake and it’s magnified because he’s a rookie and then ignorant fans are quick to say he isn’t ready. Making mistakes is part of the learning curve .Trotz needs to let him get into a rhythm. If anything boychuk should be scratched.

rangers probably won't trade kreider within the division. It would have to be a MASSIVE overpayment from the Islanders.

Bellows was a target of the rangers a few years ago, but his game has fallen since. I know plus minus isn't the best stat but he was -20 last year on a good team and -20 this year on a bad team (he's on pace for almost -40). His production isn't horrible but he's still a complete project and even at 21 he doesn't look like he'll be anything more than a bottom six player at most.

I have friends that are Islander fans and they absolutely can't stand Dal Colle --- his value has decreased also.. not a huge fan to be honest considering he's 23 and still struggling mightily in the NHL

So in terms of the trade you have two decreasing valued assets (yes this can turn around but I personally don't think so) and a 1st for Kreider. Not horrible but since it's in the division you'll have to pay a ransom, I would say swap out Dal Colle and Bellows for a better prospect and throw in a conditional pick if kreider resigns with NYI.

Just think that rangers got Rykov (a b prospect) and a 2nd for a third/fourth line player in grabner from a divisional rival.. they'll probably want the Nash return if not more for Kreider from the Isles

nobody makes more boneheaded mistakes than Dobson. Could've seriously benefitted from a year in BPT, sucks those rules are in place

Boychuk and Leddy make 10 x more boneheaded moves than Dobson. Leddy has the lowest hockey IQ on the team and it shows in the defensive zone. Boychuk constantly ices the puck at the worst times, and it has cost the team multiple games over the last month. If Dobson committed the same type of mistakes as boychuk , he would be back in juniors the next day.

Dobson leads isles D in almost every category, but sure he’s not ready! I expect mistakes, that’s how you learn.

there have been multiple games this season where teams have golden chances due to Dobson turnovers. It's painful. He doesn't turn the puck over often, just picks the absolute worst times to, and thats why Trotz doesn't trust him

Hockey is a game of mistakes and like I said because he is a rookie every mistake he makes is magnified. Actually , if you want to talk about making mistakes at the worst times. Devon toews turned the puck over to tj Oshie leading to vrana game winning goal. Boychuk iced the puck for NO REASON against the rangers. If boychuk doesn’t ice the puck, there is no penalty against brassard and the game goes to OT. If you want to talk about liabilities , there’s a few guys miles ahead of Dobson.

Trotz has never trusted rookies, even if they are playing well. Filip Forsberg in Nashville, Jakub vrana in Washington. Unfortunately he is not the best coach for rookies - he usually elects to go with vets even if they cost the team games (komarov). I can make a montage of the number of careless turnovers and penalties by komarov in the last year.

Which....because it's the Islanders. Means it's an appropriate price...

Yeah and the fact that he has a better chance of signing with a team where he probably wouldn't even have to move than some team out west makes it worth it to the Islanders to pay a little more. But it's just hard to imagine these two clubs making a major trade.

Completely agree. Lou doesn't trade with the Rangers and I don't see him starting now. But Bellows and Koivula would both help the Rangers immensely.
