Dang, that's a good offer. Still don't know what Anaheim's plan is with some of their players. I would however suggest not sending a lot of assets for a 3C (as good as Rakell is), Penguins learned the hard way with Brassard. Rakell can play wing I am sure so you might not have an issue here

Same, for both sides. Haula, can STILL hit that 30 goal mark. Gauthier can still be a great goal scorer, and the 1st in a deep draft, cant go wrong!

Ducks pass. Rakell is younger than Haula and even in his down season last year he put up close to Haula’s best numbers. Not to mention Haula’s injury history. I like Haula for any contender. When he’s healthy he’s a perfect depth piece but Rakell is a top 6scorer. Just think the Ducks could do better.

Also Rakell is not a center. He struggled as a C in his limited time there.

You do know Haula is older than Rakell right?

So far I’ve found 1 list from this season, top 100 prospects. CAR had 7 guys on the list. None of them were Gauthier.

Pronman has him on his list but even stated he was reluctant to putting him on there. States his hockey IQ is poor.

Sounds like you know nothing about Gauthier haha. when it comes to 100 prospects, those lists dont mean much. #1 could possibly never play an NHL game.

A 22 year old with a 5 NHL games doesn’t jump off as a guy that’s a difference maker. Ducks need difference makers. And prospect rankings help determine values of prospects.

Ducks dont do this, dont think they trade Rakell without an elite piece coming back, would call any of those elite pieces.

Plus, I think there would be a team out there that outbid them for him. Reasonable contract for a top 6 scorer and just about every team would be in on him.

As a Canes fan...I agree to this trade. No need for feedback from Ducks fans. Nothing to see here, let’s move on.

Kidding aside, chalk this one up to probably makes sense from a trade value perspective but doesn’t make sense based on asset valuation and timing. Basically a trade you could make work in NHL20 but GMs wouldn’t do.

Haula (extended for let’s argue 4 years) at a modest value ($4Mx4) would be a solid top 9 centerman. Gauthier has top 6/9 upside (nice!) but hasn’t gotten his shot yet. 2020 1st (let’s assume late 1st) is a pretty good piece in this draft too. Seems like that should match a rebuild, but Rakell is young enough and cost controlled for two more so the Ducks don’t go for it.

You might be better served lessening the Canes side of this and targeting Kase again.

Anaheim suffers from two major deficiencies: lack of scoring and absence of qualified RhD's. This trade does not address either. Rakell is a better scorer than Haula and as @Jah1722 points out, is two years younger and signed for two more years at a team-friendly price. Gauthier has 5 games in the NHL without any results while Max Jones (drafted 3 places later) has 68 and Sam Steel (drafted 9 slots later) has 66; both are clearly better prospects, so why would Anaheim want him?

Bottom line: Rakell isn't going to get us Svechnikov or Pesce, so don't bother calling us back unless you want to talk about Suzuki, Priskie and that first.
