Trade deadline deal with Edmonton

Created by: Jacketsman61
Team: 2019-20 Columbus Blue Jackets
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 8, 2020
Published: Jan. 28, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Interesting trade. Edmonton parts with some players not currently wanting to play for Edmonton and a prospect for Anderson who I believe would make a great compliment to McDavid and thrive in the more physical Western Conference.

This is considering that Anderson returns to health and plays well before the deadline. Murray too.
Trades
CBJ
  1. Lavoie, Raphael [Reserve List]
  2. Puljujärvi, Jesse [Reserve List]
  3. Slepyshev, Anton [Reserve List]
  4. 2020 2nd round pick (EDM)
  5. 2021 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
2020 2nd is conditional. If the Oilers make it to the Western Conference Finals the 2nd is conveyed. If they win one round it becomes 3rd. If they are out in the first round it becomes a 4th.

2021 2nd is conditional. If the Oilers sign Anderson long term the pick is conveyed. If not no pick is conveyed.
EDM

  2. Murray, Ryan ($2,300,000 retained)

As an Oiler fan I’d probably do it, but I’m pretty high on Anderson.

The 2nds suck to give up but the conditions make them reasonable (though I’d like to make the conditional pick on signing Anderson a third). Puljujarvi probably isn’t bringing back much more than that, Slepy might not ever come back to the NHL and if he does it’s tough to bank on him being overly impactful. I don’t love giving up Lavoie, would like to find a way to take him out of the deal but you have to give to get.

Oof.... that’s a lot for not a lot NHL talent. Columbus is closer to win now mode... not trade out players for draft picks.

Yeah, maybe. But when it comes down to it, this is likely the best deal you get for him. It's either a 1st round pick or a top prospect but not both. With Cam being here long term and Bjorkstrand's emergence, the right side is a strength for this team and Anderson can be expendable. Who knows maybe Puljujarvi gets his stuff together? Point is any trade for Anderson is likely going to be a futures trade.

I dont think Anderson has as much trade value as fans seem to want to believe. So this is really a trade for Murry and I dont think he is that valuable

Oh, he definitely has value. The only thing people see is what production he has done this season. Yeah it's bad but he has been playing with a hurt shoulder. So, one could assume that had something to do with his down season so far. But he likely be back soon and if his play rebounds, then the Jackets could definitely get that kind of return.

So a physical player that isnt scoring and has a hurt shoulder is valuable? I think he needs time to heal and get back to how he was last season before he holds the value Columbus would want from him if they trade him

Not sure you watched the playoffs last season. Because if you did, you would have seen Anderson as a one man wrecking crew to Tampa. He was physically imposing and was scoring to boot. What has happened this season an anomaly.
