Gudbranson would bump Jensen off the 2nd pair, which is good, but also more a comment on Jensen than Gudbranson.
Del Zotto would take Djoos' spot as odd man out.

Both of those guys together aren't worth a 1st. Gudbranson is solid for what he does, but he is not worth $4M. That $4M hurts the Cap's cap this summer. That $4M is also why the Pens only got a 7th for him a few months ago.

Using the players that you mention, you could just remove the picks: Gudbranson, Del Zotto for Copley, Djoos
Caps get more physical at D, and more actual D at D, while the Ducks get a backup goalie and cut salary.

None of this works within the salary cap. And, why trade Dowd when the 4th line has been a strength of the team all year?

Our 4th line with Leipsic-Dowd-Hathaway is the best 4th line in the league. I'd match them up against any other 4th line in the league and feel confident they'll come out on top in the metrics. Don't mess with that for a crappy 7th round pick. Dowd is far more valuable to us as a team, than some mega millions lotto ticket.

none of those trades help the Capitals. not in personnel, not in cap space, not in future team constructs.
