Terrible trade for the sharks, give away picks and prospect for an old bad goalie.

Do not see the Donato as a fit for the Isles. He looks to be a bottom 6 forward and the Isles already have too many of those.

the penguins can't do that without taking cap back.
The cap they would have to take back would be Bjugstad. Which is sketchy because of center depth.
I know people keep kicking this but it doesn't really fit long term into next year.
I don't see them trading for zucker. If anything, the penguins help an old friend on a rumor for later favors of the same kind.
Maybe they get another team to bite on him for a bit more.

Yes they can. They just move Jake to LTIR and it works. But Zucker's value isn't a blue chip and a 1st. It's a first and a B level prospect or mid round pick at most.

jake isn't on LTIR because of the bonus payments.
If they put him to LTIR, they bonus payments go to next year. As I don't think you can use LTIR for bonus payments and you have to spend to the cap to get the LTIR.
They won't do that.
They have to stay cap compliant to keep space for next year.
So yeah, that doesn't work for the penguins.

Jake doesn't have any bonuses so it doesn't effect the bonus salary relief pool. If we were to acquire Zucker he would go to LTIR. He isn't there now because it would negatively affect the pool.

It doesn't matter if the player on LTIR has bonuses, what matters is that LTIR cap relief doesn't cover performance bonuses and therefore any other player (Kahun & Marino based on a quick look at the Pens roster) who hit there bonuses will cause an overage hit to the cap next season.

Ok so I'm looking at this LTIR wrong. So basically the performance bonuses of Kahun and Marino are what we are worried about? Considering no one hits schedule B, we are only looking at 1.7 mill combined on their schedule A (if hit). Yah, I'd still send him to IR if it meant getting Zucker and not being able to trade Bjugs or Galch. That's a very easy to win gamble.

Any performance bonuses, but yeah those are the 2 I see when taking a quick look at the Pens page. IR doesn't take them off the cap, I'll assume you mean LTIR, and yeah if he will be out until playoffs and your sure of the cap situation next year then no doubt make use of whatever space can be made, I'm not a Pens fan so I'm not even going to try and make assumtions on their roster next season so the overage isn't my place to worry about.
